Kanye West Disses Barack Obama: ‘You Can’t Effect Change’

The rapper still has a bone to pick with the president.

Kanye West can probably forget about being invited to the White House anytime soon. During an interview with Power 106 FM in Los Angeles, West was asked what he thought about the president and had a few unkind words. He replied, “You can’t effect change from inside the White House like that ... you gotta have the money.”

According to the Daily Mail, West continued his rant, actually contradicting himself: “Good ideas usually aren’t connected to money as much ... Creativity and extreme genius are extremely cheap.” If you didn't quite understand what West was talking about, he had a few words of advice. “Don’t worry about how I’m saying what I’m saying. Look at what I’m saying and how I feel my intent is,” West said.

It would be “affect” if you were trying to change the change.

I agree with the earlier poster who posits that 'effect' is used correctly in the original statement. It means 'to implement' or put into action. However the changes affect Us in a mostly negative fashion.

But however you diagram the sentence, Obama seems to be blissfully unaware of the fact that he can't do what he's doing to cram this crap down our necks...

I wish he'd realize it the same way the coyote recognizes he's just run off the edge of the cliff and is immediately subjected to the force of gravity.

What do Obama and Kanye have in common?

They both see themselves on tortillas.

Yeah, I think this would be a good example of the intelligence level of the Obummer voter bloc.

However the changes affect Us in a mostly negative fashion.

He can effect CHANGE willy-nilly and HOPE that it "works" the way it is intended. It never works that way but it can inflict lasting — if not permanent — damage and can negatively affect the society and hundreds of millions of people.

And he was quite open from the beginning that this was the desired effect of his HOPE and CHANGE campaign and policies - "We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America."

Kanye ("You can't effect change from inside the White House like that ... you gotta have the money.") is wrong on several levels here because he doesn't seem to understand (or willing to accept) that any determined President — especially when having a majority or split Congress — has almost unlimited amount of taxpayers' money at his disposal, and — particularly when having major / pop media and educational institutions in his pocket — immense power to effect a number of social and structural changes with long lasting societal effects.
