Mississippi's Black Voters Should Vote for Thad Cochran
Slate ^ | Jamelle Bouie

Posted on 06/20/2014 5:41:43 PM PDT by nickcarraway

If the status quo holds, Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran will lose his seat to Chris McDaniel, the upstart Tea Party Republican who pushed the longtime senator into a run-off election. And so, rather than persuade McDaniel's supporters, Team Cochran is trying to change the status quo by appealing to a new class of voters: African Americans. Here's the New York Times with more:

It is a remarkable political science experiment, and it also may be the only path to victory left to Mr. Cochran. But after being narrowly edged out by Mr. McDaniel, 41, in the Republican primary earlier this month, Mr. Cochran, 76, needs to expand the number of voters who will show up for the runoff, which is open to any Mississippi resident who did not vote in the Democratic primary. The winner on Tuesday will face former Representative Travis Childers, a conservative Democrat, in November.

“We’ve got efforts reaching out to black voters in Mississippi who want to vote for Thad because they like what Thad is for,” said Austin Barbour, a Cochran campaign adviser. “Thad Cochran is someone who, even with his conservative message, represents all of Mississippi. He’s not some hostile screamer.”

They should stay home because it is ILLEGAL for them to vote in the Republican primary if they are RATS!!!! Slate is now violating Mississippi law. The writer of this needs to be arrested

It's only illegal if they voted in the Democrat primary. Chances are, most of them didn't bother, and are thus eligible to show up and vote in the Republican runoff. (Obvious flaw in the law: you shouldn't be able to vote in the runoff unless you voted in the primary that caused the runoff!)

The best hope is the sheeple who forgot to vote in the primary also forget to read Slate.

Cantor’s internal polling had him WAY ahead.

Less biased polls accurately showed the race rapidly closing though I don’t think Brat led in any, it all happened so fast.

Since Republican Thad Cochran is soliciting Obamabot, Democrat, African-American votes in his primary run-off with Chris McDaniel.....Cochran now becomes the defacto Obamabot, Democrat, African-American candidate!!! I would strongly suggest that every single Republican in the state of Mississippi turnout on the run-off date of next Tuesday, June 24, 2014 and cast all their ballots for the “only” lefimate Republican in the run-off....Chris McDaniel!!! DO IT!!!

Thad Cochran should not get one Republican or Independent vote!!! Any Republican/Independent that votes for Thad Cochran is throwing away their vote, and is supporting Barack Hussein Obama.....the hater & destroyer of our American Republic!!!

I read read that Chamber of Commerce spent $50 million for amnesty....against McDaniel, and I don’t know who else.

Mark Levin warned us about the Chamber of Commerce.

“Cantor’s internal polling had him WAY ahead.”

Everyone, who would stay home on a rainy day, or because they’re tired, or whatever excuse they have, because their guy won’t win, should keep this in mind.

The GOP Establishment couldn’t demonstrate its alignment with the Left any better than what we’re seeing here. Its methods for political survival are increasingly ugly and desperate.

The original intent was increase party rolls but it obviously favors the incumbent or best funded

At least MS has a runoff....TN is open with no runoff

Heavily favors GOPe

If Cochran wins Tuesday, I must ask my Mississippi friends;
Who will you vote for in November? If I still lived in Mississippi and Cochran was the Republican nominee, I would have to vote for Travis Childers. Heck, he is conservative and lives in Mississippi. That is more than you can say for Cochran.

Liberal elites know HOW to manipulate blacks... ya gotta give ‘em that...

(Sure thye do. By giving them freebies that you sweat and work for.)

AND by allowing corruption in the black community and passing out lots of 'walking around' money... Dysfunctional - criminal - degrading... but effective. White liberal elites know how to milk blacks for all they're worth.

Oh, no, Cochran has not had a MAJOR opponent since 1984, when he beat former Governor William Winter.
