Tea party, police clash in western Wisconsin town

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A pedestrian bridge over Interstate 90 has linked the two sides of a western Wisconsin burg for decades, providing a test of courage for bike-riding children and a symbol of home for travelers returning from Minnesota.

Over the last year, the town of Campbell’s overpass has become the front line in a Hatfield vs. McCoy free-speech clash between a tea party activist and the police chief.

The fight was spurred by last summer’s national push for tea party overpass protests calling for President Barack Obama’s impeachment. Nowhere, though, has the protest caused as much of an uproar as in Campbell.

The local tea party alleges the town and Police Chief Tim Kelemen are trying to curtail their free-speech rights by banning signs on the overpass. The chief, for his part, maintains tea party supporters responded to the ordinance by deluging his agency with complaints and threats. So, he fought back by registering one of the party’s leading activists with websites for gay dating, pornographic and federal health care.

Now Keleman could lose his job and possibly face criminal charges.

Sounds like Timmy Keleman needs to be indicted, tried, convicted, and sentenced to some hard time in the gray bar hotel. What out for soap on the shower floor, Timmy.

The guy should lose his job. He abused his position and committed identity fraud at the least.

Apparently Campbell does exist:

But is must be awfully small to not appear on any maps I consulted.

La Crosse Tea Party members - how many are there? Fifteen people?? This story should be about a Tea Party group... NOT “The Tea Party”.

20 democrats feuding in Podunk is NOT the Democrat Party...

He’s not a real cop....just another wannabe-cop.

Nope. The problem is exactly that he IS a real cop - with a real badge and a real gun and the real right to arrest people. Too many people view "real" cops as infallible, honorable men who would never abuse authority, when the truth is that cops are every bit as flawed as every other group of people, and, given the nature of the job they pursue, may actually have a higher rate of sociopathy than other groups. That's what real cops are, and that's why they should never be given unchecked power.

Depends on the context. Can be a felony, can be a misdemeanor, it can be used to invoke the Exclusionary Rule against other acceptable evidence, and it can be allowed as an inference of guilt or culpability in civil cases as well.

However... the Deliverance guys did manage to a) kill one of their attackers b) get one of their own guys killed and c) probably killed an innocent hunter, whom they mistook for the second Hillbilly Homo.

So in hindsight, I think Bullard's letting them off with a warning was somewhat lenient.

So a local sheriff who claims he “used to be kind of a Republican” [yeah, right,] engages in identity theft and then commits obstruction of justice by lying to investigators, but the local prosecutors are “still considering whether to file charges.”

He used to be kind of republican until he “took a walk on the wild side.”

OK, so if it gets tracked back to 0, then it’s either a “high crime” (felony ) or a “misdemeanor “ (misdemeanor).

Both grounds for impeachment.

La Crosse, WI, goes wild on Saturday nights; valium would have helped that bash. Former Kind-of-a-Republican on the far right [where else?]

And the colored girls go "Doo do doo do doo do do doo..."

His delivery of those lines was perfect though.

How comfortable were you trying to enforce local ordinances or state law that directly contradicts the Bill of Rights?

Did you consider taking any acton on the traffic below to manage the safety of the slowdown/accordian instead or in addition?
