Microsoft's top lawyer says the fallout of the NSA spying scandal is "getting worse," and carries grim implications for US tech companies.
In a speech at the GigaOm Structure conference in San Francisco on Thursday, Microsoft general counsel Brad Smith warned attendees that unless the US political establishment figures out how to rein in its spy agencies, there could be heavy repercussions for tech companies
"What we've seen since last June is a double-digit decline in people's trust in American tech companies in key places like Brussels and Berlin and Brasilia. This has put trust at risk," Smith said.
"The longer we wait or the less we do the worse the problem becomes," he explained. "We are seeing other governments consider new procurement rules procurement rules that could effectively freeze out US-based companies."

LOL, these obama ass-kissing clowns happily provide the backdoor to the NSA.
Paging John Galt.....
Happy or not they didn’t have a choice.
Obama must resign! The sooner the better.
The more stupid things you do, the better it works.
You dance with the devil, he steps on your toes.
Next time dont let the idiot hipsters in your companies get you to support people that are bad for business.
Not happily but they had to and they weren’t allowed to tell anyone.
Government worried about citizen uprising
Snowden wasn’t allowed to say anything either. He did the right thing.
What a surprise. People don’t like doing business with weasels who facilitate spying on them.
It's as if your home was robbed and you gave neighbors your spare set of keys to ‘check on things’ while you were on vacation.
Then discovered your trusted neighbors had gone through your belongings - taken what they wanted and found personal items they shared with your friends, co-workers and neighbors.
That's what the NSA, CIA and Homeland did - they went nuts and the abused power that had been given to them...
Yes, we feared radical Muslims... No, that doesn't give Homeland, NSA, CIA, EPA, etc the right to rummage thorough our under ware drawers, emails and private conversations....
The world's making the right call... the creeps are NOT to be trusted with this level of power. It's hurting tech company's reputations here at home too. As it should.
Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!
To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you must threaten to report me to the Mods if I don't add you to the list...
Can you add me to your ping list? Thanks null...
Yeah, who woudda thunk it?
LOL - done.
You sleep with dogs you’re gonna get fleas. Sounds like they do like the consequences of their choices and behavior. TSK TSK.
Huawei is already destroying Cisco in every region but North America.
The areas of US dominance are becoming narrower every year. Eventually it will hit Wall Street and finance.
The Republicans are in lock step with this too.
“Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”
They’re lying through their teeth. They’ve been part of the government plan since day one. Now that it’s out there they’re trying to convince everyone they didn’t know about it. That’s as believable as Lerner’s hard drive crashing.
Jindal said the people are ready to revolt against Washington. I’d like to see him take it a step further and lead the revolt.
Why do you think the District of Criminals is arming up every department and agency? They know its on its way.
I'm not sure what makes some folks think this is some kind of partisan issue.
Microsoft was providing backdoors to their products under both democrat and republican administrations. This is not about partisan politics. and It's not about Obama. It's about a feral government (at all levels) that essentially has decided the 4th and 5th amendments just simply no longer apply.
People trying to turn this into some kind of political partisan are really just helping to cloud the issue.
Considering microsoft has been shipping windows with a back door for the NSA since windows came out, they deserve what happens.

And the sad thing is, the NSA spies on them just as much. It’s tentacles are truly global.
WARNING: THIS POST HAS BEEN FLAGGED AT FORT MEADE FOR FUTHER ANALYSIS
dictatorships are just like trains running full out with no brakes
No Really. You have to threaten to report Nully to the mods for being a NSA plant, a DU troll, BATF agent, member of the trilateral commission, an ISIS sleeper, etc. in a real post or forget it. :)
One gets extra point for creativity, public or private...
The US government can find and read everone’s emails, but not their own.
Where is your source?
You’re kidding me, right?
Ok, I reported her to the mods. Hope they have a sense of humor..
Just Threaten to report.
Oh God, I reported Nully to the mods... I thought you guys were serious...
They made a bargain with the devil, only to find that the devil keeps altering the bargain and telling you to pray that he doesn’t alter it any further.
Yep. Soon we'll be reminiscing about the Good Old Days when the economy only shrank by one percent every month....
