Thousands of immigrant children fleeing poverty and violence in Central America to cross alone into the United States can live in American cities, attend public schools and possibly work here for years without consequences.

The chief reasons are an overburdened, deeply flawed system of immigration courts and a 2002 law intended to protect children’s welfare, an Associated Press investigation finds.

Driving the dramatic increases in these immigrants is the recognition throughout Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador that children who make the dangerous trip can effectively remain in the U.S. for years before facing even a moderate risk of deportation.

The Obama administration estimates it will catch 90,000 children trying to illegally cross the Mexican border without their parents by the end of the current budget year in September. Last year, the government returned fewer than 2,000 children to their native countries. The administration has asked Congress for $2 billion to spend on the issue.

“They almost never go home,” said Gary Mead, who until last year was director of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office responsible for finding and removing immigrants living in the country. “It’s not a process that ultimately ends in easy resolutions or clear-cut resolutions.”

To control our southern borders and stop the thousands of children from Latin America from sneaking into the United States, we need at least two new amendments to the Constitution, something like this:

1. "School attendance: Only citizens, legal residents, those with special student visas can attend elementary, high school, and colleges in the United States."

2. "One parent must be a citizen before a newborn child is given automatic citizenship."

3. Felony: We must finally declare that crossing the border illegally is a felony.

Illegal parents come to the United States for the wonderful benefits that their children can receive, like a quality education and great health care. Can you blame them for making the dangerous, long trip with their young children, or sending their children by themselves with the hope that the United States will automatically let them stay?

I don't understand how a child can illegally cross the southern border one day and automatically be eligible to enroll in public school the next day. That is wrong.

State immigration office: Every state should have an immigration office so that people in the state can have a general idea as to how many illegal and legal immigrants are in their state.

20 years ago, the school where my wife taught has 1/2 of the classes taught in Spanish. They were called ESL (English as a second language). The high school I graduated from is 75% Spanish speakers from Mexico and central America and has been for 20 or so years.
This goes back to the Carter/Reagan/Bush#1 days. Believe me.

What baraq is doing is throwning gas on a fire that has been burning for decades for his own purposes.

In my Central California town, elementary school population is already 88% Hispanic, with 44% non-English speaking and 14% more who speak “some” English. This is recent in the last 8-10 years.

We are one of the few places that still has a county hospital. You can’t get through the emergency room doors for all the latinos. It is a black hole the county throws money in.

This will not be good. Someone I know came illegally from Mexico at 14 years old. They stuck him in 7th grade. Problem was, in Mexico he stopped going to school in 2nd grade. Not good for anybody.

The Daily Caller reports, “a leaked estimate by a top official in the Department of Homeland Security says the 12-month inflow will reach 90,000 by October, and then grow by another 142,000 in the next 12 months before October 2015.” That’s over 230,000, nearly a quarter million that the Democrats hope to dump on US taxpayers. Soon, this number will have grown by millions.

The train that departs from Nicaragua and heads north to the United States. The train illegally brings an estimated 500,000 people per year to the United States.

Those are usually the plus-sized women; in my experience I see white guys opting not to breed with white women.

They might have high immigration here, but I don’t think they can keep up with the Latino birthrate. Here in NJ I think we’re probably getting more Indians from Asia then Chinese.

Years ago I took my wife to an ER when she passed out; we waited for a couple of hours (the only Anglos in the packed room - at midnight), she felt better, and we left (having been seen by the triage nurse and nobody else). They sent a bill, and I called to tell them that nobody had seen her - the bill was never paid, and they never pursued it.
