Data fudging: The great global warming scandal

The most amazing and costly scientific and financial fraud of all time is being exposed, bit by bit, and yet serious and intelligent people continue to cling to the fraudsters’ story. Writing in the UK Telegraph, Christopher Booker brings to light a starling discovery: that the world has actually been cooling since the 1930s, based on actual temperature observations.

…another damning example has been uncovered by Steven Goddard’s US blog Real Science, showing how shamelessly manipulated has been one of the world’s most influential climate records, the graph of US surface temperature records published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Goddard shows how, in recent years, NOAA’s US Historical Climatology Network (USHCN) has been “adjusting” its record by replacing real temperatures with data “fabricated” by computer models. The effect of this has been to downgrade earlier temperatures and to exaggerate those from recent decades, to give the impression that the Earth has been warming up much more than is justified by the actual data. In several posts headed “Data tampering at USHCN/GISS”, Goddard compares the currently published temperature graphs with those based only on temperatures measured at the time. These show that the US has actually been cooling since the Thirties, the hottest decade on record; whereas the latest graph, nearly half of it based on “fabricated” data, shows it to have been warming at a rate equivalent to more than 3 degrees centigrade per century.

But you would never know this to judge from the continued insistence from the global elites that we are doomed.

We can have rain with heavy water running down the streets and weather.com can show over an inch of rainfall, but a few days later they will have changed the numbers to show something like 1/10 inch.

Leftist academics and politicians need to start being pressed to sign a contract to resign their positions if Global Warming is shown to be a hoax.

Of course, they never would resign, but the point is to bring clarity to the issue.

I want to harangue and badger every Leftist for the rest of their lives with this. I want to hang global warming around their collective necks, like a 500 pound millstone.

Those of us who have following this issue have known about their fudging climate records for years. In addition they cherry pick stations for use which have been altered due to man’s influence (e.g. next to hot pavement, air conditioner heat exchangers, etc.) and ignore rural stations where conditions have not changed.

I've noticed a similar pattern from weather.com. Seems like every ten-day weather.com summer forecast in Sacramento has several triple digit hopes strapped to the final few days. When the dates come to pass there is no mention of the high predictions of a week ago. They ring the bell of "OMG it's 100" w/o ever breaking triple digits.

He freely admits he is not a climatologist. But he does have lots of experience reading data and knows how it can be distorted. He spoke at the 2010 EAA airshow. His talk was then updated in 2011.
