Skip to comments.Disparaging the president is uncalled for (LAUGH ALERT)

R-E-S-P-E-C-T, the song goes.
It is easy enough to spell, but for some vocal critics of President Barack Obama, it seems exceedingly hard to do.
As the president moves toward the land of the lame ducks, his political enemies are calling for blood. Thats no shocker at this stage of a presidency. In this case, the cuts go deeper.
For some, it is not enough to disagree. Some high-status public figures seem determined to demean, denigrate and ridicule the president of the United States.
On June 12 the Speaker of the U.S. House stepped to a podium and insulted Obama for his handling of the ongoing crisis in Iraq.
Its not like we havent seen over the last five or six months these terrorists moving in, taking control of western Iraq, U.S. Rep. John Boehner said at a press conference. He added, in his trademark, obdurate tone: And whats the president doing? Taking a nap!
Last week, U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk pronounced that Obama has fallen short in his dealings with Iran, reported CBS2 Chicago. Im very worried that the president doesnt appear to be up to this job, of protecting the United States, he said.
The disrespect comes in words, tone and attitude. Hes taking a nap. Hes not up to this job. They refer to the president as though he were a wayward child.
Its nothing new. Obama supporters, especially African-Americans, have fumed over the insults for years. Oprah Winfrey recently suggested it has something to do with his race. Theres no question about that, she said.
Last week, former Vice President Dick Cheney leveled a blistering attack on the presidents foreign policy in a Wall Street Journal op-ed. Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many, Cheney wrote. Obama cares more about his golf game than the raging conflict in Iraq, Cheney asserted.
(I could give you a few thousand words on Cheneys track record of mistakes, but that would be digressing).
Some critics refuse to address the president by his title, instead sneering lowly pronouns, like he and him. On the talk shows, via the blogosphere, even on the floor of Congress, they ridicule him in personal, demeaning ways.
In 2009, President Obama was speaking on immigration reform before a joint session of Congress. You lie! U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina shouted from his seat.
Others, from Donald Trump to Newt Gingrich, have insisted that the president is some kind of alien, a foreigner, demanding he produce his birth certificate to prove he is an American.
I know how it is. In todays hyper-partisan USA, Launching tirades at political enemies provides cheap, red meat for the base.
Still, we are talking about the president of the United States, a man who, while imperfect, is very much a grown-up, possesses high intelligence and has many talents. In two national elections, American voters definitively entrusted that man with the job.
That man represents the presidency, the most powerful office in the world. Politicians who publicly disrespect the man who holds that office derogate their own profession.
The disrespect and insults give license to the worlds despots to, in turn, disrespect him, his position, and us.
I don’t want to denigrate hm, just put him in prison for treason or at least impeach and remove.
Obama’s not going to be a lame duck because dictators don’t need congress to accomplish their goals. It’s congress that makes a man a lame duck...
Apparently, this is OK, however, in Liberal Land.
Other than George and Martha, I don’t know too many white people named Washington.
Obedience is demanded, respect is EARNED.
This article is typical of leftist demands.
sneering lowly pronouns, like he and him.
Oh no! How dare they refer to the king as ‘he’!
Obama is a POS.
* That man represents the presidency, the most powerful office in the world. Politicians who publicly disrespect the man who holds that office derogate their own profession. *
Remember when the Leftist press kept saying this every time that somebody bashed Bush?....
...Neither do I.
Abraham Lincoln, who was also a senator from Illinois [/s], was called much worse. Politics have been dirty since time began.
What’s that I see underneath that race card? Why, it’s the bottom of the barrel. Go ahead and scrape it, libs!
I remember just a few months ago obama misspelled it R-S-P-E-C-T.
I guess we’re supposed to overlook that the relentless bashing of President Bush, a wholesale (at times, gratuitous) assault on HIS character and Presidency SO shabby it became a national disgrace and which is ongoing even NOW that he’s out of office.
THAT’S OK, right?
careful ......we may damage Barry’s Inner Child
Right. We expect black dudes to be tougher than Obama is.
The complete bias, the untruths and utter one sided and lying nature of this typical account of events explains why not one of Hillary’s supporters will care a bit that she treats money completely differently from conservatives in the same realm - financial and political.
interesting that there’s no way to leave a comment on that article. seriously, was she asleep for the immediately prior 8 years?
We all know the author has no problem with disrespecting the president. He has a problem with disrespecting politicians of his same political leftward leanings.
Otherwise, he would have complained in a similar fashion when Reagan,Bush1 or Bush2 were being maligned.
But he’s a liar. He needs to be called on it just like all the liberal media. Call them on it every time.
Does 40, 000 railroad transported children qualify Obama, Biden, Holder and Kerry to be on the US State Departments Worldwide Human Trafficking Blacklist?
Obama, Biden, Holder and Kerry are lowly, sissy-cowards for using the lives of innocent children to ram through their Amnesty for Illegal Alien Invaders from Mexico Federal Law.
As the truth continues comes out of Mexico, I predict that there will be many gory incidents of despicable brutality by Drug Gang Members as these innocent children traveled through the Drug Lord Gangs various territories.
At that time, Obama, Biden, Holder and Kerry should stand trial in the World Court for Illegal Human Trafficking of Children across International Borders.

But be nice. I think the author is no older than 12 years old.
Frankly, telling the truth about Obama has to be disparagement.
I will agree not to disparage our president when aging hippies agree not to disparage Nixon.
Unfortunately for us Obama has already demeaned the Presidency of the United States along with the nation he claims to represent.
Obama is an unmitigated disaster that will take decades to repair the damage if it can be repaired at all.
This is one pResident that deserves all of the ridicule that can be thrown at him.
obama flubbed spelling this. he tried to sing/speak it and failed.
I guess they missed all the ugly things that were said about Bush. And in the case of Bush, they were unmerited.
In the case of Obama, you can’t say anything bad enough, in my opinion.
After his era in the White House is over, he and his greedy racist wife will make hundreds of millions as the Clintons have done, and they will travel the world on our tab to make million dollar speeches and continue to erode the ability of the US to keep the world stable and improve the lives of others.
A man in a seat of vast power has no business belittling those who think differently than him. Intelligent public debate of the issues is far more suitable for a man in the office of the Presidency. But he refuses to subject himself to a fair debate of his policies, but routinely mocks those who disagree with him.
An office holder conducts himself, as he does, in a way that is beneath the office he holds, and refusing to stand up like a man and debate his critics over his policies, should be held accountable in the only remaining way his constituents have left: through open criticism and ridicule. He has brought it on himself. Hiding behind the office he holds, in this case, is sheer cowardice and clear provocation of the nation who put him in office, that is if one stretches to believe that he did not conduct widespread election fraud to win the second election.
Exactly! Listen to any one of his speeches if you want to hear him disparage someone or a group. But no one can do it back?
Ah... I was doing an over/under in my head about when the race card would be played - halfway through. That blows most over/under bets right there.
Mr/Ms Author - were the attacks on President Bush more respectful? I don’t seem to remember them being restrained in the least, even calling him a “chimp”.
Mr/Ms Author - are you proposing that we’d support this president’s policies if only he were white? Uh huh...
Mr/Ms Author - or is it that the president’s skin color is supposed to shield him from criticism because he and his supporters are too THIN skinned, not dark skinned, to take criticism?
Yeah, right. “Chimpy McBushitler”, wasn’t it? Spare me, Laura.
Maybe it ought to be “she”???
Wonder if Laura was writing this same op ed in the years between 2001 and 2009. Somehow, I suspect not. In fact, I’d be willing to bet money on it.
>> Is this her?
Yep. She be a SOUL SISTA! Who’da thunkit?
Color is thicker than reality OR common sense.

As such, that's why the late Ronald Reagan described it best with a well-known Russian proverb: doveryai, no proveryai (trust, but verify). And unfortunately, we've pretty much verified that President Obama is not doing the things that could make our country better.
I'm sure she expressed similar high-minded thoughts during the years 2000-2008.
Laura S. Washington brings more than two decades of experience as a nonprofit professional and multimedia journalist who specializes in African-American affairs, local and national politics, race and racism, and social justice.
In 1985, Washington was appointed deputy press secretary to Mayor Harold Washington, Chicago’s first black mayor. She also served as a producer for the investigative unit at CBS-2/Chicago and as a correspondent for Chicago Tonight on WTTW-TV.
Newsweek named Washington one of the nation’s “100 people to watch” in the 21st century.
Consistency isn’t most leftists’ forte.
She’s dangerous! Watch her!
This has got to be a reprint from The Onion.
