Good catch by the Weekly Standard, not because this matters to what O will do this year but because it matters, potentially a lot, to 2016. The singular foreign policy question for Republican voters 18 months from now is this: Are we a hawkish or dovish party? Look at the data and judge for yourself. Clearly GOPers are more dovish than they used to be.
But theyre also still more hawkish than you might expect.
Heavy Republican support for further intervention, weak support among Democrats and indies. You could, if you like, toss that result out on partisanship grounds: A la some Democrats with Bush, some Republicans think any move Obama makes abroad is bound to be wrong and moronic. He hasnt done much (yet) in Iraq to head off ISIS, ergo it must be the case that he should be doing more. Thats the knee-jerk anti-O approach. Okay, but heres another result. Can this also be dismissed on partisan grounds?
Maybe this is also being processed along partisan lines, with some righties treating it as an indictment of Obamas passivity, but my hunch is that most people are reading it as a matter of national obligations to Iraq.

I agree.. we should drop him off in Iraq and see how he does.
I agree. He could give a few speeches, a couple of selfies, maybe play some golf. They would all commit suicide, problem solved.
I wish he’d vote present and go on vacation.
About 50% — that’s what happens when you flip a coin before deciding.
Can see it now, “The McCain Brigade”
Any who want to volunteer go right ahead, I won’t stop ya
He and McPain can fly to Myrtle Beach and give Lindsey a hero’s celebration.
For years now Iraq has been selling the oil to China.
They sell 2-3 million barrels per day at $100 per barrel.
Yet they never paid one cent for their liberation, or gave the families of our dead soldiers any money to help raise their kids.
I hope the kill eachother and go to hell.
Pat Buchanan said we should have taken the oil. I agree
Also, I would not bomb from the air as Maliki wants us to do unless we get 1 years oil revenue up front.
Iraq allowed Iranian agents to work inside Iraq and help his government. Iran made the IED’s that killed out men and Al Maliki let them be shipped and used in Iraq against our soldiers.
No favors for Iraqis they earned my disgust.
Yes, Obama should do more in Iraq.
Personally.
