I think an interesting thing is that Lerner sent this from her Blackberry.

Did that crash too?

I always wondered about Reid announcing to the world that he knew that Romney didn’t pay taxes. Problem with that one is I don’t think it turned out to be true. But still....

Why in the world do these governmental agencies give bonuses? They don’t have any competition.

I think its time to subpoena the little bird that told Harry Reid that Romney didn’t pay taxes.

This email may be on purpose to show that they ‘almost’ did something wrong. Throwing the dog a bone. Now the Sunday talk shows can claim that the IRS is giving out damning emails, but those emails aren’t so bad.

she tried to sic the IRS dogs on a sitting US Senator...this just went white hot.

Yep. The first rule of getting along in D.C. is not to threaten the fat cats. If you do, expect them all to step on you, hard. Because they won't see this as hitting a Republican, they'll see it as hitting a Senator.

Congressional investigators say they uncovered emails Wednesday showing that a former Internal Revenue Service official at the heart of the tea party investigation sought an audit involving Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa in 2012.

The emails show former IRS official Lois Lerner mistakenly received an invitation to an event that was meant to go to Grassley, a Republican. Grassley presumably received Lerner’s invitation.

The event organizer apparently offered to pay for Grassley’s wife to attend the event. In an email to another IRS official, Lerner suggests referring the matter for an audit, saying it might be inappropriate for the group to pay for his wife.

“Perhaps we should refer to exam?” Lerner wrote.

It was unclear from the emails whether Lerner was suggesting that Grassley or the group be audited — or both.

The other IRS official, Matthew Giuliano, waived her off, saying an audit would be premature because Grassley hadn’t even accepted the invitation.

“It would be Grassley who would need to report the income,” Giuliano said.

The name of the event organizer was blacked out on copies of the emails released by the House Ways and Means Committee because they were considered confidential taxpayer information. Grassley and his wife signed waivers allowing their names to be released.

Grassley didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The IRS says it has lost an untold numbers of Lerner’s emails because her computer crashed in 2011, sparking outrage among Republican lawmakers who have accused the tax agency of a cover-up. The emails released Wednesday were among the thousands that have been turned over to congressional investigators.

I personally suspect they already have the e-mails and are just trying to prod players to come forward to save themselves by providing more evidence.

I personally think you are quite right. Spreading this out before dropping the hammer (1) makes complete liars of the prominent D players, (2) compels the media to follow, or look like the stooges they are, (3) compels, however reluctantly, Justice to become involved, (4) keeps 'big, tyrannical government" front and center as election approaches.

I think they have all the emails they need - and have had them for awhile. This is about doing real damage to our enemies - all of them.

And how about all the people who suddenly got audited when they ran afoul of the rats - like Sarah Palin’s parents, and so many others.

Say what??? How the heck did Lerner get on a Republican mailing list?

And who "mistakenly" got my invitation?

The Pubbies are in the mode of slow torturing them. That’s good - it was entertaining in the Coliseum in its day and it’ll be great fun now. If you’ve ever seen a bullfight, Pubbies in Picador mode for now, but will become Matadors as this develops.

As to the immunity question, of course they’ll give her immunity if the target is the White House. IMO, today’s press release was a well aimed broadside at her, a kind of decision aid.

No, they’re just fine with RINOs. It helps them foster the illusion that there’s any difference.
