The Russians captured the Pirates, tied them up, put them on their boats, then set them all on fire. No more pirates. Plus, probably no more Somali pirates attacking Russian ships. This video shows Russian Navy commandos on a Somalia pirate ship shortly after the pirates had captured a Russian oil tanker.
All conversations are in Russian with a single exception of when a wounded pirate says something in English and the Russian soldier says "This is not a fishing boat." All conversations between the commandos are in Russian. If you don't understand Russian, the pictures speak for themselves.
The soldiers freed their compatriots and the tanker. The Russian Navy Commandos moved the pirates back to their own (pirate) ship, searched the pirate ship for weapons and explosives and then they left the ship and exploded it with all remaining pirates hand-cuffed to it.
The commandos sank the pirate ship along with the pirates and without any court proceedings. They used the anti-piracy laws of the 18th and 19th centuries where the captain of the rescuing ship has the right to decide what to do with the pirates. Usually, they were hanged.

One of the posters is speculating that the Russians didn't didn't actually kill the pirates, just turned them over to the authorities.
OK, fine. But who are the authorities on the high seas other than the captain of the rescue vessel?

America did early on. That is where the Marines get the part in the song, ...”to the shores of Tripoli”. America’s first war, as I understand it, was with Muslim pirates. I believe President Jefferson was at the helm.

I’m familar with the story. First of all it is not related to an oil tanker and true, none of the pirates were killed in the incident, just a paki capitan of the mother ship had his leg shot for being too much agitated during arrest.
It doesn’t mean these guys were ok after all. All have been handed to Iranian coast guard and in Iran piracy is punished by hanging so none of them is alive.
As for a tanker, one pirate was killed and another wounded but it was because they tried to shoot at boarding helicopter.

None was shot or even arrested after being captured this time. Survivors were given inflatable and released.

These 7th century savages watch these ships pass their little anus of the earth, and have to lash out because they have, and are, nothing. The civilized people of the world will do horrible things to them to prevent interruptions of commerce. In some cases women in this part of the world are paid like $2 to have their tubes burned with injections (sterilizing them). A month later the money is gone and their baby-breeding days are as well.

When Russians were communists it wasn’t uncommon to send marines to a location like this to shoot every male older 14, burn every boat and vehicle near the shore, to kill all their livestock and also to pour a jet fuel into wells.

Tthe Soviets did not bother negotiating with Hezbollah through Nabih Berri, Lebanon’s justice minister and leader of the Shiite Amal militia.
Instead, the KGB kidnapped a man they knew to be a close relative of a prominent Hezbollah leader. They then castrated him and sent the severed organs to the Hezbollah official, before dispatching the unfortunate kinsman with a bullet in the brain.
