Especially in Mississippi, where there's a lot more to Cochrane's narrow win than their "everyone-hates-the-Tea-Party" narrative.
You know how the news media fearlessly holds our elected officials accountable? Yeah, me neither. They'd like you to think they do that, but they're pretty excited this morning about the fact that incumbent members of Congress like Democrat Charlie Rangel in the House and big-spending Republican Thad Cochrane in the Senate survived their primary races.
This is especially true in the case of Cochrane, who was being challenged to Tea Party-backed Chris McDaniel. McDaniel had finished first in the original primary vote, but since no one won a majority in the primary it required a run-off - and Cochrane narrowly won with the help of the Republican establishment and no small number of Demcorats as well.
Why would Democrats help a Republican incumbent? Well this is the part the media won't tell you.
Mississippi is a deep red state, and everyone in both parties knows that the Republican primary winner will almost certainly win the November election. So it's in the interests of Democrats to back the Republican who likes to spend taxpayer money and bring home the bacon to his state. Since 1972 in Mississippi, that has been Thad Cochrane.
In order to ensure that the cash would keep flowing from Washington to Mississippi, the GOP establishment teamed up with inner-city pastors who normally encourage their members to vote Democrat. Not only that, but they played on the ignorance of low-information voters. One voter who was interviewed said he voted for Cochrane because he thought McDaniel was going to cut food stamps. Another said he thought McDaniel would refuse to accept school funding even if every other state accepted it. (That's not even within a U.S. senator's power to decide!)
And the cities were littered with campaign material that claimed "the Tea Party" (and by implied connection, McDaniel) was plotting to prevent black people from voting.
This is how the establishment keeps its favored politicians in office. It plays on the ignorance of low-information voters, and is completely shameless about how it does so. You think the Republican Party is the pro-business party, but Republican strategists were more than happy to make black voters fearful of McDaniel because of his ties to business. Whatever it takes to win, to maintain power, and to keep the m oney flowing.
So throughout today, when you hear from the media that voters "rejected the Tea Party," keep in mind the parts of the story they're not telling you.
I cannot imagine what the racist GOPE would have done to Cain had he upset the apple cart and ran in Georgia. That’s right, as Mark Levin says, the real racists are the establishment.

Let me put it this way...people I know well, professional people, people in academia, who have voted conservative/Republican all their lives and are anything but emotionally driven, have already vowed (and their word is their bond) to not vote for Cockroach in the general election. These are rational intelligent people who understand politics and the importance of majorities, but they are bitter like I have never seen.

It’ll be interesting to see whether the cockroach/boss hog coalition is able to pull out a win. Given that they’re “running against” another uniparty candidate, I don’t see that they really lose either way. But it would be nice to see boss hog’s reaction if his favored uniparty candidate lost in the general anyway.
Any protestations by the Mississippi GOP should be met with questions about why they didn’t request a closed primary, as was their right.
They won’t win. The rat voters will go back home in the GE, and the conservatives will, at best, vote for no one.

Who has been assigned responsibility for the “robo-calls” and the flyer distributed in the “mostly Black” counties in Mississippi?
It may make sense for Chris McDaniel to assume a third-party designation, and run on that ticket in November.
If that is even possible in Mississippi.
We’ll see. I think to a certain extent they expect their base to sulk back and vote for cochroach. Time will tell.
I’m not familiar with MS politics. Is the governor a boss hog crony? Likely to appoint boss hog or one of his minions should cochroach achieve his eternal reward?
I will NOT vote for Cochrane. I’m going to NO VOTE which is to write in. There is a space on the Mississippi ballot for a “write in” but there is no provision to count them but the do indicate in the totals that voters chose neither of the candidates for that office. I would like to see 50 or 60 thousand Conservatives do that. If we wrote in the same name it would be apparent it was organized, I will only use someone’s name with permission.
From what I can tell, McDaniel is pretty much locked out. And they don’t do write ins unless a candidate dies or withdraws IIRC.
I’m actually pretty good with that. Chris McDaniel seems like a decent human being. He would be a fine leader away from the DC cesspit. We’ll need those kinds of leaders if things play out as I expect them to in the next 10-20 years.
Frankly I couldn’t say where Gov Bryant will come out on this, but my best guess is that he will stick with the GOPe, they all do. He just doesn’t seem like the type to buck the establishment party politics, though he’s conservative.
If he’s already said something, I haven’t been paying attention.
