Old and veteran is not relevant to this story. “Generosity” with other peoples stuff is a very democrat thing. The stupidity was compounded here as this dude wasn’t even running for office. If he wanted to be generous he could have bought the items for the beggar.

My first job when I was 16 was working at McDonald's and one of my "friends" came to my counter and begged me to give him a couple of hamburgers and not ring it up. I took some money out of my own pocket and paid for it for him. I was only 16 and I knew that was the proper way to do it.

All these generous people saying "But it was only a biscuit" have obviously never been in a retail business dealing with shrinkage. The biggest danger to your bottom line is product that disappears. Somebody who is dishonest in small things can be dishonest a LOT in small things.
