Michael Savage: Rand Paul looks more and more like a Democrat
Mofo Politics ^

Posted on 06/28/2014 2:57:28 PM PDT by ObamahatesPACoal

In hopes of avoiding Chris McDaniel’s fate, Rand Paul has worked tirelessly to shed his image as a fringe, right-wing ideologue.

(SNIP)

"Every day, the guy looks more and more like a Democrat. Every speech he gives, ‘Republicans are too quick to wanna fight…’.

Every day, Rand Paul is showing himself to be the shrimpboat that I always knew he was."

I never trusted him. I liked his father better than him.

Rubio and Rand should campaign in an ice cream van together. Summer of love for amnesty.

He may be auditioning for Hillary’s V-P. However, that spot is already taken by Julian Castro, the Communist mayor of San Antonio, to capture the Brown vote. If Fidel had had a son.....

Yep. He sounded good a for a brief while but didn’t know when to shut up.

I guess he thought he could win over a few republicans and then run as a democrat. He’s lost me for good.

I think he's trying to avoid being his father. Mr. 10%.

Like it or not the model for successful GOP Presidential nominees is Romney, McCain, Bush Jr, Dole, Bush Sr, Reagan, Nixon, Goldwater.

His dad's brand needed a lot of expanding if he's going to get on that list.

Really only Reagan jumps out as a successful conservative from that list.

The most conservative candidates don't win the nomination, and neither do the most libertarian. The "most electable" middle of the road types do.

This is why I have been suggesting that FR try to coalesce early around someone if we don't want Jeb, Rubio or Fatso being our Nominee. Any of those three would fit right into the above list, and add to the list of nominee-losers in my estimation.

My sense is that Ted Cruz is the current favorite of a lot of Freepers. (And Palin, of course.)

I give up, what is meant by “shrimpboat”?

It’s not that he sounds like a Democrat that bothers Savage, it’s that he sounds like Barry Goldwater... a Paleo-Con. That’s a position that desperately needs to be heard in this fast disintegrating republic. Our only hope is drastically smaller government, less regulation,, fewer foreign entanglements, and a general roll-back for Washington.

That disappoints Savage and his ilk, who thrive on the government teat.

While the slang term *****boat Mr Weiner used is vulgar, disgusting and wholly inappropriate and typical for the jerk that Weiner is... I can’t say I have any desire to support Rand Paul these days.

What he said and “Forrest Gump” are worlds apart. He lives in San Fransicko, he knows what he said and it is messed up.

Well, no. He’s a true Libertarian which have quite a bit in common with the Dims. Maybe I’m just playing semantics here.

Hmm, I don't get that from Savage. I think he might like a Paleocon nominee. Why do you say Savage thrives on the government teat?

One of the main things I associate Savaage with is his long running "Borders, Culture and Language" motto. With it he has been in the forefront of the immigration restrictionist movement, which is a signature Paleocon position.

Rand seems to have a lot more liberal views on immigration, which is in keeping with his more libertarian background.

Goldwater has some libertarian background too. I would almost say Savage is more Paleo than Goldwater. But maybe we are using the term a little differently.

The nice thing about NeoConservatism is that Irving Kristol (Bill's father) nicely wrote a book about it. So it's easy to understand what it is.

For the sake of discussion here is the Wikipedia entry on Paleoconservatism:

Paleoconservatism (sometimes shortened to paleocon) is a conservative political philosophy found primarily in the United States stressing tradition, limited government, civil society, anti-colonialism and anti-federalism, along with religious, regional, national and Western identity.[1][2] Paleoconservatism is not expressed as an ideology and its adherents do not necessarily subscribe to any one party line[3] although critics have disputed this.[4]

Paleoconservatives in the 21st century often highlight their points of disagreement with neoconservatives, especially regarding issues such as military interventionism, illegal immigration and large amounts of legal immigration, multiculturalism, affirmative action, and foreign aid, to which they are opposed.[1] They also criticize social welfare and social democracy, which some refer to as the "therapeutic managerial state",[5] the "welfare-warfare state"[6] or "polite totalitarianism".[7] They see themselves as the legitimate heirs to the American conservative tradition.[8]

That laundry list sounds like a week of Michael Savage, although perhaps he is a bit more of a war monger than the typical Paleo. Wouldn't Pat Buchanan be the dean of the paleocons, now?
