Republican Cochran wins with Dems, should Alabama close its primary to avoid it happening here?

Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) overcame tea party-backed challenger Chris McDaniel in a runoff Tuesday night after finishing second behind him in the primary three weeks ago. Although he now faces a Democrat in November, Cochran’s runoff victory likely secures him a whopping seventh term in the U.S. Senate.

Alabamians were paying unusually close attention to the out-of-state race because of its potential impact on the committee assignments of one of our own U.S. senators, Richard Shelby.

(SNIP)

With all of the action in Republican primaries now, the teachers’ union and liberal activists launched a coordinated effort to get traditionally Democratic voting blocs to the polls to vote not for Democrats, but for their chosen Republicans.

In most races they were unsuccessful, but they were able to pick up a couple of state house seats.

(SNIP)

Alabama Republican Party Chairman Bill Armistead has already vocally backed party registration.

Ah, somebody else trying to encourage FReepers to vote Dem. Who the heck is paying these people?...”
***********************************************************************

NOBODY is paying us, comprende? You may have not reached the point most of us have, but we’re tired of bending over and holding our ankles for the most despicable so-called allies imaginable (i.e., the RINO GOPe establishment). If we allow the RINOs to employ liberal democrats to destroy conservative Republican candidates in conservative states, they will do that EVERYWHERE.

The ONLY way to make the GOPe understand that the tactics they employed in Mississippi are UNACCEPTABLE is to make them pay a price. And the ONLY price they will understand is the loss of their RINO seats where they employed these tactics.

I’m not talking about all RINOs—only the most agregious. In other words we need to take a targeted “rifle shot” approach rather than a shotgun approach. And the two RINOs I’d like to see go down this cycle are the despicable Mitch McConnell (who is on a self-admitted WAR with the Tea Party and leads that war effort) and the despicable, early dementia suffering puppet of the DC lobbyists Thad Cochran.

I thought that “Operation Chaos” thing was a stupid idea even at the time. For one thing, Rush spent so much time urging his listeners to mess with the Dem primaries that he completely neglected what was going on with the GOP. Thus giving us - ta da - McCain.

I think parties should stick to their own primaries and focus on getting the best candidate for them, not trying to foul up the other party’s primary. Or using the other party to foul up their opponent in their own party, as Cochran did.

The sad thing is, the RINOs are getting what they want no matter what.

What most don’t realize is, is that the Republican elites would rather have a Democrat in than tea Party. A Democrat will keep the money and corruption flowing, while Tea Party is the true party of reform and stopping money corruption in DC. The pubs can always work with Dems as they speak the same language - money from wall street and unions and fleecing the taxpayer while controlling their lives. The Tea party is set to change all that and they can’t work with them.

Like Jesus Christ, there’s a reason the most unmitiagated hatred is saved for the Tea Party. It’s because it really isn’t the status quo.

Well, not really a good answer. About three weeks ago, I developed a kidney infection, which drewmy resistance down and I developed dengue fever. Hand-in-glove with that, I also got that opportunistic parasite, malaria. At one point, my hemoglobin was only 6.8.

So, hubby is waiting on me hand and foot, and I lay on the bed and moan about how exhausted I am. Prognosis, recovery around the end of August.

An election which is to pick that party’s representative for the Fall election should ONLY be done by “party members” and ABSOLUTELY NO ONE ELSE!

In Oklahoma, you get a special ballot designed ONLY for that party you are registered with. You cannot cross any boundaries, because it’s not even on your ballot ... :-) ...

An “open primary” is a crime against voting citizens!

ALL primaries should be closed. What is the point of a primary if the other party can choose your candidate?

Get well soon. I know how it is to not feel well. I was telling a friend that I have been sick since 2008 when I started having all kinds of anemia problems which led to low ferritin in the blood, to low B12, and thyroid problems. I told him I have a 2007 Honda and I have less than 20,000 miles on it. Now, I have to have eye muscle surgery because I am seeing double. That has cut way down on my trips to MS. My regular eye dr told me to get an eye patch. I had been being real nauseated for months. When I had part of a brain MRI done, I overheard 2 techs talking and they said seeing double can cause nausea. Why hadn’t any of my drs told me that? You take care of yourself. Keep me updated. God bless.

I think closed primaries are the way to go.

that is how they do it in Florida.

Even independents or “no party affiliation” registered voters CANNOT VOTE for a Republican in the primary.

Not sure about your parliamentary angle, but it did get ONE republican elected to congress from CA.

I forget the details but the top 2 were both “R” and one of them one.

A surprIse to all, it seemed at the time!

my question is how?

Here in Alabama, at least my part of it ,we have no voter ID cards that have your Party affiliation on it. You simply tell them at the poll you are a Republican OR Democrat.

Nowhere on your Photo ID is your party affiliation registered either...
So, how do you stop Dems from voting in a Repub primary / run off?

Runoffs are the only reason Cruz is a senator from Texas. They are a powerful tool to fight incumbants and the establishment in both parties.

I fully expect the powers that be start to try to restrict runoffs or do away with them altogether if they can.

Eh, we’ll see about that. Let me borrow a phrase: VOTE FOR THE DEM, IT’S IMPORTANT. Defeating Thad Cochran may be the most important thing that can happen this November.

Yeppers - we will not vote for Cochran and may very well vote for Childers to double down with our votes. Allowing Cochran another term is submission to, and endorsement of, betrayal.

It really shows you what we are up against, how the MSM colludes with the GOP-E, and vice versa, to misrepresent things.

Again and again you hear about Sharon Angle and Christine O’Donnell, but you never hear about the Establishment candidates who prevailed in the primaries and lost in the general.

And then if anyone raises say Rubio v. Christ or Rand Paul and whoever it was he beat, they’re like um...um...let’s move on.

And the sheer ingratitude that has been shown by the Republican party who would still be wandering in the Obama-dominated wilderness if not for the tea party is mind-blowing.

This Cochran thing was just a bridge too far. I wouldn’t really care if he reached out to dems to vote for him, politics ain’t beanbag, etc. But to smear his opponent, and his opponent’s supporters the way he did, he just has to lose.

And those smears are also being covered up by the MSM, but I think those who need to know about them do.

So, I hope they’ll all be flummoxed the day after election day, wondering how a man who got cross-over support in the primary lost by 40 points.

General elections should be open. Primaries should be closed PERIOD. The open primary states seem to be ignorant to the problems of the past. The Alabama Republican party has been resistant to closed primaries for years. I hope Mississippi is a wake up call.

YES!

Primaries should be closed. I know that clyde chambliss GOPe RINO (running for AL-30) is a bought and paid for hack of one or two of the unions/special intrest groups. That is how he had the money to blanket the airwaves with those nauseating ads for weeks on end before the June 2nd primary.

“My daddy dosn’t let me date yet” says clyde’s daughter in one stupid commercial... Like THAT really has something to do with the issues in AL-30 or the state for that matter? But that’s typical clyde always hiding behind a skirt.
