Couple Charged With Locking Son in Room for Two Years
NBC News ^ | 28 June 2014 | Elisha Fieldstadt

Posted on 06/28/2014 4:11:08 PM PDT by SouthernClaire

... State child services workers got a tip June 17 and found the boy in a dark room with only a mattress, a box spring and a plastic jar apparently used as a toilet, Gwinnett County police said in a statement. The boy had been in the room, without toys or books and without going to school for most of two years, and a lock was put on the outside of the door in January 2013, police said. Investigators found no signs of malnourishment or abuse to the 13-year-old or his nine siblings, who were not confined, according to police.

ALL 10 CHILDREN are in state custody. (Emphasis added.)

Ouch! Better put some ice on that!

From the article: The boy said he was being punished for taking the family DVD player and lying about it...

Two years in a room for that! Now that he's out, he'll be surprised to learn that DVD players are obsolete and everybody is streaming their video to tablets and laptops over the Internet.

Was the kid getting in trouble? If he was acting like an Obama son, maybe his parents decided to lock him in his room. Granted, it wasnt the smartest way of punishing him!

"An undated family website shows deeply religious parents seemingly devoted to their flock of happy smiling kids and to their religion and “Yah,” a derivative of Yahweh."

Sounds like another cult

Man, and the gospel never called for this kind of bizarre thing.

Go to post #4 article, Ex. Pure abuse, IMHO.

I’m having to read and type quickly due to the combination of a storm and having ATT as our provider. Not a good mix.

I could be wrong (it would not be the hundredth time) but sounds like a case of absolute hatred for one child ... out of ten.

Yep. “Deeply religious,” perhaps, but not in the Christian sense in any way.

I would like to see the materials they got their “religion” from regarding YHVH.

t is a cult. The “Yah” followers (who call themselves Black Hebrews) have been involved in child abuse before. It’s a black supremacist cult.

There was a particularly horrible case in Harlem a few years back.

“Investigators found no signs of malnourishment or abuse to the 13-year-old”

No abuse, really?

Depending upon what part of Gwinnett you might be surprised at the price of that house. Not as much as people from the northeast and west coast would think. I’d be surprised if it’s over $250K.

Ya know, Headstamp, that’s one of those things you read and then look again to be sure you read it correctly the first time.

If that were indeed the case - “found no signs of ... abuse” - why the charges in the first place? Why the story at all?

Reporting seems to have become a sport in which the writer takes a vantage point of her favored star. Facts are either neglected altogether or trumped up based solely on the whim of the cheerleader in favor of her quarterback.

“Just the facts, Ma’am.” We are not mindless idiots who cannot come to a reasonable conclusion based on facts. It gets tiresome having to dig through the rubble for them.

What was the matter with the other kids that none of them tried to help?

I’m with you... locking a kid in the basement for two years IS abuse...

I’ll throw out two guesses in answer of your Q, GOPJ:

1) Afraid of the parents, and with apparent reason; or
2) They were taught to hate the kid.

Or both ... or neither.

It would seem that it would be impossible to ignore your sibling tucked away for 2 years, but then, that’s just me. Sounds like the parents were teaching some kind of “Thou shalt be condemned unto death in a room for misuse of the DVD player.”

When I was a teenager, I did something boneheaded and my dad told me that I was grounded “forever.” Without even thinking, I replied, “Forever? That’s a long time!” We both stared at each other for about three seconds and then we both started laughing. I think I ended up getting grounded for about a week. Later, my dad told me that my reply was so funny, that he couldn’t stay mad and thus shortened my punishment.

THAT is funny! I can imagine the looks from one to the other.

Reminds me of a friend’s response: “Grounded??? It’s not like I fly off to school every day now.”
