OUT WITH KEYSTONE XL, IN WITH ENBRIDGE NORTHERN GATEWAY
Breitbart ^ | June 28, 2014 | Thomas Rose

Posted on 06/28/2014 11:45:02 PM PDT by Vince Ferrer

Claiming it could no longer abide the Obama administration's five-year refusal to approve construction of the Keystone XL pipeline designed to bring 830,000 barrels a day of much-needed Alberta shale oil to U.S. refineries, the Canadian government recently approved plans for a huge new pipeline and port project to ship that oil to Asia instead.

Well, Duh-1 ran out the clock. IMHO, the Canadians have waited well beyond what was reasonable, thanks to the ass in the white hut.

I agree about McDaniels, I applaud his sticking to his guns in the face of the GOPe--especially because there are some serious irregularities.

In addition, win, lose, or draw, he has exposed those power hungry b@stards for the sort who are just as driven by the "the ends justify the means" morality as the most Liberal Democrat.

For all the yapping about "truth to power" we heard in the Bush days, now the media are telling McDaniels to "just lie back and enjoy it"--from both sides--which smokes some of the so-called "conservative" pundits out, too.

McDaniels is peeling back the rock that was the GOP and we are seeing what is crawling underneath, trying to scuttle out of the sunlight.

As for the stock market, most of what has gone on there is a balloon inflated by quantitative easing, held by investment banks, and when that pops the average person will be lucky to get out with their shirt.

I have only small positions in a few resource based stocks, (less than five figures), a hit I can afford if it evaporates, but because they are either producers of PMs or Rare earths, for the most part, I doubt they'll disappear. For now, I'm staying out of the stock market, for the most part.

Not just the Saudis, imho. There is little shortage of light, sweet, crude. The Canadian crude (Tar Sands stuff) is a heavy oil closer to the Venezuelan crude, and I think that's the market Duh-1 has been protecting by denying Keystone. Rather than do business with our northern and still relatively free neighbors, he not only snubs them but gets cozy with other dictators...

Of course, anything to deny pipeline space to crude from the Bakken/Three Forks as well, even though much of that moves by rail.

Of course, Obama will now hastily approve it even though it’s basically pointless now. Because it’s pointless now, more like. And of course, he and his supporters will then use it as an example that oil companies lie, etc., etc., since it was approved in a ‘timely fashion, with due consideration’ and yet it was never built.

Fearless prediction is that most of the Northern leg of the Keystone XL will be built soon with the exception of a hundred miles or so needed for the cross border extension. This is to specifically address the Bakken and associated oil fields.

I'm surprised this has not already implemented as Fed involvement in permitting is limited largely to river crossings, which is an engineering technology related permit by the Corps of Engineers. Note the rapid implementation of the southern leg of the XL from Cushing to the Gulf Coast. Canada's decision to pull the trigger on their west coast pipeline will take political gamesmanship off the table on delaying the Northern leg of the XL implemented with respect to Bakken connection.

NAFTA requires Canada to send 2/3 of its oil to the US, so a pipeline to their West Coast to ship to Asia will reap limited reward

And, you can bet there are folks ready to take Canada to NAFTA Court if they do not honor NAFTA US quota. Those groups who sue cities for “Buy American” ordinances will be suing Canada over oil

Canada is quite upset over Keystone, and rightfully should be

Nafta requires Canada to export a fixed proportion of it’s production to the U.S.. End of Story. The number is about 60%

Looks like Canada may be screwed unless they can produce lots of crude really quick.

So they can ship their oil to Texas just like the Saudis do.

Thanks for clarifying....I thought the Canada NAFTA quota was 2/3. 60% still quite substantial.

And I thought NAFTA was for Free Trade....so much for that

Regardless, Canada is getting ripped off. They should sue in NAFTA court

Building the proposed 1,179-mile Keystone pipeline promised, not just a huge new supply of reliable, clean, and affordable oil to U.S. markets...

I'm not trying to justify the delay in the pipeline because I'm not; it's ridiculous. But the oil flowing through the Keystone was never meant for the U.S. market. It was already planned for export.

There are a few hoops to jump through before they get the pipeline to Kitimat.
It will take a lot of grease to local tribes and an enormous construction budget...

YOU are right 60% is a huge number.I don't know where they stand right now but perhaps they have the production to still sell their heavy crude to the chicoms. I'm with you they should sue zeros ass off for not making a decision a timely manner.
Hard to image US picks Venezuela over us with Iranian rockets pointed at us!! Once again a story the will never be reported unless we do it here.

Gotcha wonder if the deal is written in stone at this point?
If it’s bad polling for zero you can bet he will try stalling tactics again.

There is probably room for both a western and southern pipeline coming out of the tar sands. A very importaint connection would be oil flowing from North Dakota getting a cheaper ride south to Texas refineries.
