Fighting Vainly the Old Ennui ... Mark Steyn
Steyn Online ^ | 27 June 2014 | Mark Steyn

On my weekly visit to The Hugh Hewitt Show yesterday, Hugh and I discussed the Clintons and their money - Bill can't stop talking about how much they have, Hillary can't stop talking about how poor they are, and poor Chelsea has declared, from her $10.5 million apartment, that she's just too, too bored by money. On Hugh's show, I put it this way:

The problem here is it's a Mitt Romney problem. When Mitt ran, people talked about Bain Capital, and a lot of people couldn't understand what Bain Capital did. You know, he would talk about Staples, but everyone understood he wasn't the guy who invented Staples, he wasn't the guy who worked in stationery and office equipment and built up a chain of stores. Somehow Staples had fallen his way, and he turned it around. And people couldn't quite equate that as work. And I think it's actually even worse for Hillary Clinton, because she and Bill Clinton are stinkingly rich just from giving $200,000 speeches to rather shady and shifty figures from the United Arab Emirates. That's basically how they've got rich... People don't mind money, and people don't mind Bill Gates having a ton of money, people don't mind Steve Jobs making a ton a money. But this is hard-to-explain kind of money.

People aren’t paying $200K for Hillary’s sage advice (even though she did make a killing in the futures market long ago). People are paying $200K for access to Bill and Hillary’s power.

Has anyone read Steyn’s book, “After America?” I might like to read it but I am already depressed about how we have very few people who see the insanity that is going on here. We are a tower of Babel, both in language and in culture, and a nation like that cannot stand.

Practically everyone has read Steyn’s book “After America,” but you could support his lawsuit against the Climate Nazis by buying an autographed copy from his website!

I suppose you could find it depressing, but it’s funny. For an alternative viewpoint, you could David Goldman’s (”Spengler”) contemporaneous book, which reaches somewhat different conclusions from the same data.

I have read After America -- it is excellent. I agree with the above post that encourages everyone to go to Steyn's web site and buy a book to help him win his lawsuit. He is being harassed by leftwingers for telling the truth.

...(Obama's) governing not as the president of a genuine republic, but as the president of a Latin American-style republic, where the president matters, and nobody else matters...

This is so easy to many to see but for so many others it is impossible to see much less articulate.

QATAR DONOR TO CLINTON FOUNDATION/LIBRARY: As Hollywood hotshots protest the Beverly Hills Hotel over its ownership by Brunei's sultan and his embrace of Sharia law, it turns out the Brunei government has financial connections to "The Clinton Foundation."

The tax-exempt, nonprofit Clinton foundation lists Brunei along with Kuwait, Oman and Qatar (new home of the Gitmo Five) as donors that gave between $1 million and $5 million through last year.

The Clinton foundation itself confirmed the 2002 Brunei donation: "The Clinton Foundation's impact would not be possible without the generous support of our donors," the foundation's website reads. "Their contributions have made a difference in the lives of tens of millions across the world." Read more at foxnews.com ...

================================================

W/ a straight face, Hillary told Greta the Gitmo Five are NOT a problem to the US.

Hillary Clinton reveals what it’s like to be poor in America

The Peoples Cube| 6/9/14 | Opiate of the People / FR Posted 6/28 by laotzu

Hillary Clinton has served America for decades; in January 1993, she made history as she became the country’s first co-president along with her husband, Bill. After her tour in the White House ended, she answered the call from her adopted state of New York and voluntarily gave up a lucrative career trading cattle futures to act as one of only two US senators from that state.

In 2008, after tirelessly devoting herself to helping Barack Obama become America’s best president, she looked forward to retiring to a quiet life in a small cottage somewhere. Once again her country called, pleading with her to act as Secretary of State because President Obama, who would’ve been better than anybody at the job, was simply too busy to do it himself.

After four extremely successful years in the post, Ms. Clinton was on duty at 3 AM in the White House War Room when a call came in, informing her the extreme Tea Party wing of the Libyan Republican Party attacked the U.S. embassy in Benghazi. The date was Sept 11, 2012.

She immediately ordered the U.S. military to parachute her into the compound so she could take command. The Joint Chiefs balked, saying that the embassy was seven thousand miles away and by the time she got there, the attack would be over. “What difference does it make?” she said softly, “Get me there now!” The Chiefs relented. But, as they feared, by the time she arrived it was too late; president Obama’s poll numbers were already starting to fall.

Her injuries from Benghazi and her 1996 arrival under sniper fire in Bosnia still give her pain, but the physical scars are not what bother her the most. For, in spite of her decades of selfless service to America, decades in which she never forgot her fellow Americans, she recently revealed the great disappointment in her life: Americans had often forgotten about her. As she recently revealed to esteemed, accredited, impartial, state-approved TV journalist Diane Sawbucks: “We came out of the White House not only dead broke but in debt.”

Ms. Clinton went on to reveal the depths of the degradation her family was subjected to, being forced to make speeches for $200,000 a pop and pick up deposit bottles and cans out of the alleys behind expensive hotels (but mostly make speeches for $200,000 a pop) in order to make ends meet.

“It is shocking, simply shocking that America can cast aside its fallen heroes so readily,” said another nearly destitute Democrat senator, on his way to promote a documentary movie about the hold right wing billionaires have on the country.

“The Koch Brothers don’t care who they hurt!”

“The country wouldn’t treat wounded veterans so poorly”, said Senator Elizabeth Warren, herself so impoverished she was forced to accept a $525,000 advance for a new book in order to keep vichyssoise and caviar on the table. “But just because a leader is a civilian womyn lawyer, the patriarchy feels it’s OK to treat you like dirt!”

Amazing stuff Liz... I guess the LA Times 'missed' these interesting piece of information you've found... their loss.

Do you think there's any chance Chelsea Clinton really doesn't care about money because she's seen what her parents will do to get their hands on MORE MORE MORE of the stuff?

You would find the book depressing, except that you’ll be laughing about every other sentence. Not even PJ O’Rourke or Flo King can hold a candle to Steyn once he gets rolling. Buy the book.
