After the United States delayed a sale of fighter jets to Iraq, Russia sold planes to the Iraqi government. Now they've sent military experts to Baghdad.
Gen. Anwar Hama Ameen, who heads the Iraqi air force, explained that the secondhand jets would quickly be deployed in the government's fight against the Sunni extremist group ISIS.
In the coming three or four days the aircraft will be in service to support our forces in the fight. Ameen also said that the presence of Russian military experts would be short-lived. Nevertheless, here's how Rod Nordland characterized the development:
The move was at least an implicit rebuke to the United States, where concerns in Congress about the political viability of Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Malikis government have stalled sales of advanced jet and helicopter combat planes to Iraq."

Nature abhors a vacuum, Barry; figure it out.
Many if not most American deaths in Iraq (and Afghanistan) can be traced back to the Rules of Engagement — Russian soldiers won’t be similarly encumbered.
Bashir al-Assad has been using air power against jihadi terrorists for more than three years in Syria’s civil war, yet he hasn’t defeated them yet.
In fact, the Syrian government’s air force has even been dropping chemical bombs to try to defeat the terrorists, still to no avail.
Al Qaeda and ISIS members are not ordinary soldiers who might surrender if the going gets rough. They’re fanatics who believe they’re on a mission for Allah. Their funds are increasing each day as they rob more banks; and their numbers are increasing as their exploits become more public and more maniacs are attracted to their cause.
A few Russian aircraft are not going to save the day for Iraq. All they’ll do is turn the Iraq war into a full-blown extension of the endless Syrian civil war.
Why would Vladimir Putin want such a thing? To create a distraction from his planned invasion of the Ukraine? To cause oil prices to rise so that Russia’s energy supplies become more valuable? Whatever the reason, we know it’s not to provide a victory for Nuri al-Maliki with a ticker-tape parade through Baghdad, since Putin is not delusional enough to believe such a thing is possible.
And Russia played an important part in the negotiations after the Iraq/Kuwait war and prior to the Iraq war of 2003.
I think the solution is 3 separate countries. If they want to go into agreements beyond that...fine.
I don't know how to say "Dither" in Russian, but I'm sure Pootie-Poot does....
Good Let Putey spend a gazillion rubles and get his troops azzes shot off for nothing. Knock yourself out Vlad.
they have a different STRATEGIC mission than American soldiers would. I just don't see russian military officers and nco's brought up on charges when they respond to attacks.
They have someone in charge that doesn't mind saying "yeah, we want YOU to control the oil fields , Mr Iraqi leader. But we want to control YOU. " So there you have it.
Putin controls energy to Europe and now has a finger in the mid-east pie to put the squeeze on the rest of the energy supplies of the world. Meanwhile our EPA and idiot in chief are busy arguing about snail darters and bugs that backlog our refinery and oil/Natural gas pipelines and energy independence with regulations and faux environmental arguments.
Once again, Putin playing chess and Obamalamadingdong playing with his poopy diaper and other little boys.
They won’t have their hands tied by soetoro’ ROEs.
Ain’t that the truth. LOL!
Honestly, I think that is fanciful thinking as well. 3 separate countries may have been possible before 2011, but not now. ISIS isn’t going to accept such a grand bargain or agreement...that is not their goal.
Their goal is a caliphate and as Muslim extremists, nothing less is acceptable.
Another reason for Russia to go in there is that Iraq has oil and nat gas. If Putin is able to button up all that oil, then he has even more leverage over Europe.
And he doesn’t have to be concerned about Obama.
He is pre occupied.
Why should USA give/sell high quality jets to Iraq? Do some want ISIS to have these too? Wake up to what is happening... this day is not yester years.
Russkies are producing some good propaganda with the gifts of the SU-25s to the Shiite government. But little do the stoopind Ruskkies and Arabs no that ground support aircraft have no purpose in today’s war enviroments according to America’s strategic geniuses who are cannibalizing everything to get the F-35 Edsel off the ground.
It seems English is my third language, sorry.
Your president is a pencil neck geek.
Sitting the war out at least for the time being seems to be the wisest thing to do now that this administration has thrown away all the gains previously made in Iraq.
OUCH!
Jesus Christ: You cant impeach Him and He aint gonna resign.
