McDaniel Unveils Another Strategy Against Thad Cochran
The Daily Caller ^ | June 30, 2014 | Neil Munro

Posted on 06/30/2014 4:50:41 AM PDT by don-o

Volunteers working for tea party challenger Chris McDaniel in Mississippi say they have already found 20 percent of the invalid double-votes they need to cancel Sen. Thad Cochran’s business-funded runoff victory.

“We’re finished with Hinds County, and we’re up to 1,500” invalid votes, said Noel Fritsch, Daniel’s press aide.

That’s critical because McDaniel can force another runoff if he can find more invalid votes than Cochran’s roughly 7,000-vote margin-of-victory on June 24. Votes are invalidated if voters cast ballots in both the Democrats’ June 3 primary and the GOP’s run-off on June 24.

However, McDaniel can also force another election even if he can’t find 7,000 invalid ballots, said Fritsch.

“We don’t have to prove that we have 7,000 [invalid] votes…. all there needs to be is enough doubt about the election, and we’re confident about that,” he said.

That “cancel by doubt” strategy gives the McDaniel campaign an incentive to collect evidence about possible vote-buying and other potentially unethical behavior by Cochran’s campaign.

So far, there are many reports about shady outreach to Democratic voters supposedly undertaken by Cochran and his allies, particularly done by relatives of former Gov. Haley Barbour.

For example, The Daily Caller reported that Henry Barbour, the head of the Mississippi Conservatives PAC and the nephew of Haley Barbour, paid Democratic operative Mitzi Bickers “to make paid calls to potential Cochran supporters.” Those calls may have spurred many loyal Democrats to cast invalid votes.

In the search for improper votes, GOP officials who are affiliated with Cochran’s campaign are trying to block McDaniel’s search for invalidated votes that are recorded in the poll books, Fritsch said.

However, 19,000 absentee voters cast ballots in the GOP run-off, and many of those votes may be improper, say McDaniel’s allies.

“The doofus McDaniel should have had a strategy BEFORE the runoff date. Such as attacking Cochran for his support for amnesty — which Dave Brat used to decimate Eric Cantor.”

Yup, McDaniel should have went to black churches and told them...’vote for the racist that wants to block you from voting, close the schools and starve your children, because Cockroach is for amnesty.’

I’ll bet that would have worked./eye-roll.

You said that McDaniel refused to attack Cochran for being pro-amnesty.

Really?

Maybe there is more to explain McDaniel’s loss than just Cochran’s treachery...

Mississippi does not allow write in votes, as I understand it. Time to quit wasting energy and thought on this tactic.

The only hope is for McDaniel to successfully challenge the runoff results. Barring that, vote for the dem to defeat the establishment scum and help destroy the gop.

McDaniel did have a strategy. His ads were there. They were smothered by the spending for Cochran.

I'm not going to blame the victim (McDaniels) here and I no longer want the 'pubs to have a majority in the US Senate unless this outrage ends and McDaniels gets the nomination.

That being said, you do make a point. The invasion of the US IS the issue, as evidenced by those constitutional conservatives who speak forcefully and convincingly against it are the ones winning in primaries. Any "conservative" who does not make that their prime issue just might be a phony.

With McDaniels, I hope it's a lesson learned. Disgust with the invasion of the US is what brings voters to the Republican candidate. Brat won because of his 100% rating with Numbers USA. JMHO

The despicable nature of the Cochran team’s strategy cannot be rewarded.

Who’s going to vote for a guy whose campaign just called you a racist?

There is a difference between "triggering a recount" and reversing the outcome. In this case, the strategy is not counting ballots, but invalidating a certain number of votes. The ballots probably look okay, IOW, there are few ballots invalidated because of the contents of the ballots. The margin is too wide to win by finding a small fraction of ballots where the intention of the voter can't be discerned, but a vote was tallied for one candidate or the other. I don;t know of any challenge based on errors in counting, either.

The threshold for "enough taint" to draw the election into question is roughly the margin of victory, or something pretty close to it. If the margin of victory is 6,700, and the number of tainted ballots is 2,000, the margin of victory is still substantial, and not enough to draw the outcome into question.

Barbour sued to close the primary a few years ago, and lost. Mississippi is a “no affiliation” state, where a voters choice in a primary is recorded in a poll book so a voter who votes in more than one party’s primary can be detected and nullified.

-- Even if McDaniels prevails, the slime left behind by cockroach Cochran and McDaniels has probably already forfeited the seat. --

I doubt it. Mississippi is a very solid GOP seat, and the number of voters in the general is much greater than the number of voters in the primary.

In my opinion it's too late to fix this one.

The only hope is to close the primaries, so that this never happens again.

How could McDaniel possibly win? both the Republicans and the Democrats are against him.

A judge? you mean a Republican or Democratic judge ? lol right! not going to happen. Any judge that got this case would be thanking their lucky stars that they are being given the opportunity for higher appointment by towing the party line!

There is zero chance McDaniel will force a new election, none, zero, nada.

Where do you have it that write-ins are not allowed in MS?

First, federal voting rights laws mandate write-ins be allowed.

Second, McDaniel’s campaign has already announced that he will be a write-in if he does not prevail in challenging the primary election.

The Brat Cantor race is a poor analogy. First, it’s a state versus a compact single district - but more importantly, Cantor was the face of amnesty in a lot of ways - and Cochran simply was not. Oh for two.

He can do all the outreach in the world to blacks and it will get him nothing

The only whites that should be voting democrat are communists and homosexuals, and its high time whites band together against those two groups as well as the illegal aliens and the Federal apparatchiks.

Blacks, Hispanics and marxists vote together as a bloc because they hate white people and want to steal their money via the electoral process.

Only a fool would waste time string to reach out to a legion of parasites for support

I’ve read and heard it several times. And federal law does NOT mandate that write-ins be allowed.

I’ve not seen any such announcement from McDaniel, and I seriously question it - given the information I have found.

It is amazing and maddening how most of the press, including Fox news, has covered the story of this election. It seems the long term incumbent Cochran reached out beyond the Republican base and won votes from other groups. How wonderful, and by doing that, he was able to turn back the radical Tea Party candidate McDaniel.

All that and similar nonsense is presented with not a word about potential illegal votes in the 1,000s and other forms of voter fraud. And not even a mention that votes are being reviewed and improper votes have already been found.

It is shameless and nothing will turn it around on this story unless the election results are voided and some remedy required.

There is precedent posted on another thread by a Freeper that described how a Mayor’s election was overturned not by invalidating votes to reach a margin but by drawing attention to tactics that violated law.

McDaniel’s campaign is alluding to this in this article without revealing their strategy. There were tactics used by the Barbour people that violated MS election law. That’s enough to obtain a ruling to redo the primary election.

The question is whether the Cochran camp can get legitimate crossovers to vote on the next go-round. I think not as I believe it was national GOP in the way of a couple of million that bought the dem activists that brought out the crossovers. And I don’t believe that money will be forthcoming the next go-round.
