Guatemalan boy left for better life, died alone

SAN JOSE LAS FLORES, Guatemala — Gilberto Ramos wanted to leave his chilly mountain village for the United States to earn money to treat his mother’s epilepsy.

His mother begged him not to go. “The better treatment would have been if he stayed,” Cipriana Juarez Diaz said in a tearful interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday. When he wouldn’t relent, she draped him with a white rosary for safe passage.

A month later, his decaying body was found in the Texas desert. Now, the boy has become a symbol for the perils faced by a record flood of unaccompanied children from Central America who are crossing illegally into the U.S.

Authorities said Monday that Gilberto was 11, making him one of the youngest known such children to die crossing the desert. He was shirtless, having likely suffered heat stroke, but still wearing the rosary.

“He was a good son,” Juarez said. “May God give me the strength to endure.”

It turned out Gilberto was 15. His parents explained Tuesday that they had taken several years to register his birth because of the remoteness of their village in Guatemala’s northern mountains. When they did, they had forgotten his actual birth date, so they listed the same date as his younger brother.

Just another variant on “if you subsidize something, you get more of it”. One successful immigration begets two more, which beget four more, then eight, and so on.

>> The people who lured him and others to this country under false pretenses have his blood on their hands.

Blood, dehydration, disease, and death.

Like pretty much all of us at one time or another, he shoulda just listened to his Mom. That’s the lesson here. The media, of course, will be working to turn him into the “immigrant Trayvon.”

Obama and crew enticed these people to come with loose talk of “dreamers” and giving illegals citizenship.

This is the result.

Obama and crew have these peoples blood on their hands.

It is as simple as that.

this is a propaganda piece, its supposed to gin up sympathy for the ‘poor immigrants’.

expect more of this and don’t be fooled.

Yep. Give it two-three weeks. So they came up with all this detail and tear-inducing back story, in less than a month? Heroic trek across the desert? With, rosary thrown in for effect, by people who despise all things religious, except teh muzzie crucifiers. Genius!

Leftist heart-string agit-prop. Re-calibrate your bullshit detectors, people.

Well...we have AMERICAN kids here that die alone. Better be worried about them. Please...No monuments or sad songs or speeches about this teen. He made a choice and ended up dead because of it. Being an American citizen is not a human right. Nobodies fault but his own.

I wonder if that org that has been on TV has something to do with this. Save the children or something like that.

Most 15 year olds are still incapable of fully understanding consequences and many have a sense of invulnerability as well. He wanted to help his ailing mother (poor way to do it of course) but I can’t help feeling sorry for the boy.

I’m as anti-illegal immigrant as any here but when it comes to kids I have a natural soft spot. No matter where they happen to be born. Having said that, if had to make a choice I would of course take care of an American child in need before that of a foreigner. We gotta take care of our own first. Wish other cultures understood that!

These are pure blood Indians living in remote mountains in Guatemala. They are living primitively. Most don’t peak Spanish and they sure can’t read or write

How is it that America is somehow responsible for them? To give them a chance to make money here? To live here?

America defeated and subdued the Indian tribes here 130 years ago. Now we are being invaded by Southern Indians and half-Indians who are mestizos.

More than ever wwe need to enforce the Southern Border

Riddle me this, Batman.....how does a boy from a village so remote that it took his parents years to be able to register his birth, somehow know enough about America to make the life threatening decision to leave the only place and people he's ever known? Hmmmmmmmmm........

I wonder how many children have been pushed across by the Latin American countries looking to empty their orphanages and asylums, juvenile prisons? I also wonder how many Mexican government officials are extorting money from would-be immigrants to get to the border and then across?

The mother “begged” her 11-yr-old son not to go? He was her responsibility and his blood is on her hands, along with our President and whoever else was involved in orchestrating this invasion or children’s crusade against America.

Looks to me that Gilberto’s older illegal alien brother in Chicago, Esbin, is a candidate for prosecution for child abuse, manslaughter as well as aiding and abetting human trafficking.
