'Snake' Found in Mid-Day Meal in Bihar, 54 Children Fall Ill (School Lunch Program)

54 students of a government middle school in Bihar's Sitamarhi district fell ill today after eating a mid-day meal in which a 'snake' was found.

Sursand block development officer Vinod Kumar said the children of Meghpur Middle School at Sursand developed symptoms of nausea and fell unconsciousness after eating the meal.

They were rushed to a nearby public health centre, given medicines and kept under observation. None of them were in critical condition, he said.

"We have seized the khichdi that was given to the students. A long, black object was found in it and we suspect that it could be a snake that got cooked with the meal. We will send the samples for tests," said Mr Kumar.

Sursand Inspector Bimar Kumar Singh said the school students ate the meal and then noticed the snake-like object in the large utensil in which it was cooked. They then reported feeling sick and began vomiting soon after.

A year ago 23 children of a primary school at Dharmasati Gandaman village in Bihar's Saran district had died after eating a mid-day meal laced with pesticides.

Would it be possible to include the country in the tagline? Otherwise this could be a part of the Somali suburbs in Minnesota. Thank you Mr. Coriander.
Try this recipe: one small onion, diced. One medium ripe tomato, diced. A handfull of finely minced fresh coriander. 1/4 cup grated fresh Parmesan or asiago cheese. Olive oil, five tablespoons, one half squeezed lemon. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve as a side dish over lightly toasted fresh sourdough bread, or top over baked cod or salmon. Yum.

I put the country in the keywords, as I was supposed to. It could be D.C.

A religious Brother from the Philippines was telling us this morning about eating snakes, dogs, and frogs. (My folks in Missouri eat frogs.)

I guess the snakes were fresher in the Philippines.

I have eaten the snake and frog. Don't know about dog, but I spent 6 weeks in the Philippines and had at least one hamburger that didn't taste like beef.

Any ground meat will do!

One of our parishioners who was helping at the mission this morning is a veterinarian, and she checked out the Brothers’ chickens and rabbits. “The rabbits look great - eyes are clear, noses aren’t runny, very healthy.” “Thank you, Miss,” said a Brother from Kenya. “We will eat them!”
