Alan Dixon, who served two terms in the U.S. Senate from Illinois, died this morning at his home in downstate Fairview Heights, according to his son.

Dixon had been experiencing heart problems in recent months, his son Jeff Dixon said. He would have turned 87 on Monday.

Dixon, a Democrat, served in the Senate from 1981 until 1993. He was defeated by Carol Moseley Braun in the Democratic primary, his first political loss in more than 40 years of public life.

Illinois- strike one
Dim-bulb-crat -strike two
Senator ( which is Latin for feces bag) - strike three

We know then that this dork’s death improved the morals and the IQ of the country by a measurable amount.

Sarcasm? You bet.

Truth? You bet.

Interesting from Wikipedia:

"In the fall of 1970, Karl Rove, a future White House Deputy Chief of Staff in the George W. Bush Administration, used a false identity to enter the campaign office of Alan J. Dixon, who was running for Illinois State Treasurer, and stole 1000 sheets of paper with campaign letterhead.

Rove then printed fake campaign rally fliers promising "free beer, free food, girls and a good time for nothing," and distributed them at rock concerts and homeless shelters, with the effect of disrupting Dixon's rally. Dixon eventually won the election. Rove's role would not become publicly known until August 1973. Rove told the Dallas Morning News in 1999, "It was a youthful prank at the age of 19 and I regret it."[2]

And only served two ( 2 ) terms. While I probably would disagree with most of his views, that makes him a patriot in my eyes.
RIP Senator Dixon

I’m nor sure what was worse, him dying or the fact that he was defeated by Carol Moseley Braun in the Democrat Primary.

"Patriot" is a word I'd refuse to use to describe *any* Rat officeholder of the last 40 years. Before that...possibly.

Back before the Watergate investigation when Rove and the GOP had the fortitude to get their hands dirty.

He didn't "only serve two terms" by choice. He was defeated by another liberal who was worse than him.

He was a moderate Dem (voted for C. Thomas) who lost his primary to Carol Mosely-Braun for his trouble. Peter Fitzgerald beat Mosely-Braun and went after the crooks on both sides of the aisle, and in Illinois. He was a solid conservative (though a little wobbly on guns) who was chased out by the REPUBLICAN establishment in Illinois. This opened up the seat for Barack Obama. Obama would have NEVER run against a Fitzgerald who had the backing of the party.

Most people blame that vote on why he lost his seat. It was a GUTSY vote for a Democrat and probably helped the country in far more ways than any of his other votes.
