Near the end of 2010, a group of telecommunications and commerce businesses joined forces to form a mobile payment venture called Isis. It was a solid brand name: Short, simple and easy to remember. Unfortunately, ISIS is now associated with a militant group based in the Middle East, so the wireless company believes a branding tweak makes sense.

Just reverse it...SISI...and since 99% of their business is probably remittances to Latin America, it’s a GREAT branding opportunity

There used to be an appetite-control product, in the form of chocolate bonbons, that went by the trade name of Ayds. Widely promoted and to all odds, modestly successful, it came in several flavors, all with the same active ingredient, benzocaine, or later, phenylpropanolamine.
By the mid-1980s, public awareness of the disease AIDS caused problems for the brand due to the phonetic similarity of names. While the product’s name was changed to Diet Ayds (Aydslim in Britain), it was eventually withdrawn from the market.
Not the first time a trade name has been hijacked.

2001: Lone Gunmen cancelled. Pilot, first episode had terrorists flying a plane into the wtc.
There used to be an ambulance service in Whittier, Calif. called AIDS. It was a company with a good reputation, but for some strange reason, it changed its name in the mid-1980’s.
