That is essentially the message of an outstanding new book by Jason Riley about blacks in America. Its title is Please Stop Helping Us. Its theme is that many policies designed to help blacks are in fact harmful, sometimes devastatingly so. These counterproductive policies range from minimum-wage laws to “affirmative action” quotas

The people who deserve to be helped will be helped by the free market. These people contribute to the economy and society.
The people who are too stupid to live on their own will be helped by the government. These people contribute to crime, New Deal politics, and atheism.
This shouldn’t be complicated, but to the morons who prance about for political office and beg for Bolshevist bureaucracies, it seems to be beyond their comprehension.
I ordered the book and am waiting for it. Sowell is impressed with this man’s simply telling it like it is. The author is black. I have a black lady friend I’d like to give the book to after I have finished it, an opportunity to spread the truth about blacks in America.
There is a role and even a call in the world for charity, but charity by its definition is voluntary.
The dole is a soulless substitute, and Christendom has allowed itself to get lulled into supporting it.
The so-called War on Poverty has destroyed black family structure, work ethic, and created a permanent dependency class. This is a form of bondage stronger than iron chains. It is a shackling not of the body, but the mind.
If you haven't read Allen West's "Guardian of the Republic" I highly recommend it. He tells of his life and family but also about what makes our country unique...and even addresses some of the "entitlement" crowd/flaws.
I love Allen West & saw his book advertized, thanks for the recommendation.
Based on my current tagline alone, I figured I should at least drop in on this thread.
It's a short read but really makes you glad to be American...lots of history of our beginning and how the progressives are undermining everything the Founding Fathers worked hard for.
You'll love him even more after reading the book ;)
