He was good, but he is just as guilty of them coming here by his support for in state tuition for the law breakers parents. It's an incentive that needs to go away. Why don't American parents from Alabama, Louisiana, or Arkansas or any state that have kids that want to go to Texas colleges get to pay in state tuition in Texas. They haven't broken any laws.

Perry is RINO. I am from Texas. Please find me a CONSERVATIVE who is from Texas that supports Perry. There ARE NONE. That’s why he’s not running. He would have LOST the Governor’s race. FACT.

Baloney.

I live in Texas as well. At this point is difficult to see how Davis would best Perry next November had he chosen to run. And for the life of me I cannot come up with a Republican state politican who would have run and beat him in a primary. He is much more popular (maybe acceptable) that you describe.

Some of these comments remind me that we’ll once again destroy all of our presidential candidates in 2016. There will be none pure enough, experienced enough, conservative enough, smart enough to be our presidential frontrunner.

The Democrats must laugh their a$$es off at us. We make their work so much easier.

I so agree with you. I really like Rick Perry. This time around we need a Man to run. I am all for Perry.

Not necessarily baloney.

During the last Governor’s election had all the Democrats voted for the Democrat candidate for Governor (White) that voted for Obama for President, Perry would not have won the election and Texas would have had a Democrat Governor.

I didn’t believe this when I first heard the comment but did have an opportunity to review the hard data that had been put together by a Houston group called Raging Elephants. It’s about turnout.

Ain’t it the truth. Maybe everyone in the country needs their own president.

Governors cannot unilaterally call up the National Guard

The President cannot unilaterally do half the crap Obama's doing either. Play that game, make them stop you from defending your borders.

Easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

Perry needs to stand tall—call out the National Guard—call outthe Rangers—ask for Civilian Deputies to help patrol the borders—women too to take cair of the tikes, armed men to control the Gang Bangers and drug runners. If he should use all of his powers as a Governor to meet this new challenge! then he should run for President! (keep the bottle a way from him before a debate—let him drink after the debates only).

I think we also lost a lot of Freepers in the 2012 "Not conservative enough" bloodbath. Sad that some get so hateful and attack our would-be candidates with such ferocity that they kill any hope we might have had.

You are assuming the Dems would have run Davis had Perry not declared EARLY he was not running!

Perry is RINO

I know him personally, other than the Guardasil thing I have no issues with him. A RINO he is not.

Depends. Point I was making was that in the Governor’s race where Perry ran against White, all it would have taken to beat Perry would be for all those in Texas who voted for Obama to come out once again and pull the “D” lever and Perry would not have won. I often wondered if White would have been Black if they would have turned out.

Doesn't this imply that the President can issue orders to the Guard only if Congress approves?

An act of Congress is one method for authorization but the Constitution also
allows the President to call up any American forces in order for him to perform
his Duty compelled by his oath as POTUS to protect our country from attack,
or in this case, invasion.

The president can order the border closed at any time without any approval
under most circumstances, health and welfare being one, invasion another.
There are more but they're not relevant to what's happening.

We are truly about to lose our Republic. If Perry takes bold and decisive action to call on Texans to seal the border then he would instantly become a historic figure. The very survival of our Republic depends on completely sealing our border.

It doesn't matter what some black robe tyrant says or some Federal official says, the very survival of our Republic demands that someone takes the bold step to rally the citizen militias to organize and seal the border.

My gut tells me that Perry will continue to just talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.

True leaders ACT, political bags of wind TALK.

If you know Perry then you can tell him that history will judge him and most in government very harshly.

All our of so called leaders are standing by while our Republic is turned into a decaying third-world socialist sewer.

We have an invasion by anti-English, very anti-American hoards -- with the goal of overthrowing our culture, our language and our Republic.

I was unclear in my original question about who can call up the Guard. I wasn't trying to give Obama a pass, saying he didn't have the authority.

Rather, I wondered about this: Suppose Perry found the courage to call up the Texas National Guard, and sent them to the border. Could Obama then federalize the Texas NG, and order them away from the border?

If Perry takes bold and decisive action to call on Texans to seal the border then he would instantly become a historic figure.

No truer words were ever said on Free Republic. And the huge majority of Americans would agree with him. Some would do so publicly, some only privately. Heck, even the black leadership knows that illegal immigration is bad.

The only complaints would come from delusional ultra-leftists and the La Raza traitors.

But like you, I'd bet that Perry will continue to talk, and not act. It's too risky; someone at The New York Times might call him a fascist or a racist.
