There's a reason why bedbugs are nicknamed "hitchhikers." But Detroit city bus riders don't want to share a ride with them.
"I never ever imagined they would be a problem on buses," said Anthony DeRamus. "It makes me uncomfortable."

I hope she and Margaret Sanger are roasting together on a spit in hell.
Frankly I think they’d be the LEAST scary thing on a Detroit city bus.
The easiest and cheapest vulnerability to bedbugs is heat.
Just 118F will kill hatched bedbugs in 20 minutes, and eggs in 90 minutes. This is significantly enhanced with the use of fans to distribute the air flow.
So build an insulated bay that can accommodate a bus, put a fan in its front and back, as well as two on the floor, and raise the air temperature inside the bay to perhaps 130F.
Calculate a 1-1/2 hour cycle, with another half hour for prep and cool down. 2 hours per bus, as often as you like.
They’re having to deal with it in NYC right now. DDT could have stopped that bedbug problem in its tracks.
No, the simplest and quickest way to get rid of them is to dose the buses with DDT.
Frankly, a 4 hour non-chemical heat/cool down cycle per bus is way less than an optimal solution. How are you gonna do this in NYC in winter, or in Idaho, or Maine, or Minnesota? Burn that Keystone pipeline gas?
My background is in insect behavior. I can tell you that the reason these bedbugs are trying to flee Detroit on buses is because they can’t afford a taxi.
“When I was a kid, people would take their beds, mattresses and pillows out on the lawn to soak in the sun all day on weekends during the summer. This would kill the bedbugs and their eggs.................”
We had families who would wash their mattresses with swimming pool water. The Chlorine killed everything. We still clean players hockey and football gear by tossing it in the pool then letting it dry on the lawn.
Maybe you should throw the players in as well, just to be certain.................
First of all, DDT is still illegal, though it might be the cat’s pajamas otherwise. And there are already insulated tent systems used to heat things against bedbugs, so it is not an exotic idea.
There could be another twist as well. You do not have to heat the outside of the bus, only the inside. So still inside the insulated bay, you shut all the doors and windows and use fan heaters to raise the interior temperature.
DDT mainly affects the central and peripheral nervous systems, and the liver. Acute effects in humans exposed to low to moderate levels may include nausea, diarrhea, increased liver enzyme activity, irritation of the eyes, nose and/or throat. At higher doses, tremors and convulsions are possible.
None of which are particularly pleasant when other bus passengers are doing it.
I think both of you are missing the point. The bedbugs aren’t coming from the buses. They’re coming from the people who use the buses. Spray everyone before they get on the bus!

Nahh...they got hosed off.
I am happy that someone claims to have consumed DDT for a long while with no ill effects. Good for him.
I will still stick with the official US toxicological data.

Okeedokey.....YOU believe and trust the government. They’ve been wrong so seldom and never manipulated nor entertained an agenda - good luck.
Seriously, do not mess around with toxic chemicals because your conspiracy theory only needs to be wrong once, and you are pushing up daisies.
