Harry Devert left a job as a trader in finance to take a transcontinental motorcycle journey from the United States to Latin America.
Six months ago, he vanished after sending his girlfriend in New York an ominous text message from a troubled region in Mexico, about being escorted from "an area too dangerous for me to be."
Mexican authorities, acting on tips, on Thursday located his green Kawasaki motorcycle in a shallow grave in the state of Guerrero, along with the badly decomposed remains of a man in two plastic bags, said Darren Del Sardo, an attorney for Devert's mother.
The identity of the body has not been confirmed, said a statement from the Guerrero office of public safety. The discovery was made nearly 300 miles southwest of where Devert was last heard from in January. . .

What an idiot. Delusional for going there, unless he had a death wish (or staged his ‘death’ if the body isn’t him).
Stay out of Mexico, period.
I lived in Mexico City for two years when I was in my 20's. I ALWAYS made sure that I was in a safe place. I spoke fluent Spanish and wasn't afraid to go to the Policia if I encountered ANY problem.
Even then, I got into some jams but I was always with someone and if I wasn't I knew when to RUN!
EXCELLENT idea. I lived and worked there two years and still have oodles of family there BUT I am done with Mexico.
"I've been chased with a gun in Colombia, chipped my tooth on a gun that was shoved in my mouth in Venezuela and shot everything from a bazooka to a machine gun, an M16 to a Colt .45," Devert wrote in his travel blog, A New Yorker Travels. "I've been in some of the poorest and some of the most dangerous parts of the world and to many of the finest, and I still can't tell which I liked more. I think that life is a pilgrimage."
If you read the article, he didn't know how to ride a motorcycle, either. I still sympathize with the poor bloke, but he was a thrill-seeker.
Yes, poor guy.
One of the BEST places in the world to get a transplant is Stanford Hospital in California.
One of the reasons, they admit, is that the 19-year-old male motorcyclist who gets himself splattered all over the freeway can then have his 19-year-old organs FRESH and ready for the next transplant.
Who wouldn't love to have a healthy 19-year-old heart for a transplant?

I’ve said for quite awhile now. I don’t have to go to Mexico, Mexico is here. All I have to do is leave my house.
I tell people this but few of them get it.
Another Darwin Award winner. No loss here.
I did that in the 60’s. Got a motorcycle and took it all the way to Chile. On the way back in Columbia came over a hill and saw a bus pulled over and some bad guys killing 16 people. Hid in the bushes, then went down there, very gory. Not sure why they did it.
Earlier spent some time with smugglers who were bringing booze and cigs tot he US. Pretty wild ride.
If it was wild in the 60’s, imagine now! I think you did what quite a few people did back then, but you have to be insane to do so now, IMO.
And that Democratic nut job who toured a camp said a 3 year old walked from Central America. If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you!
My idiot liberal nephew graduated a few years ago with a master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies. I know, right? Since graduation, he has: lived in Egypt for 3 months but left because he almost starved to death due to their terrible food; moved to Louisiana for a semester to go back to school; worked at Walmart for 3 months; worked in hotel management for 3 months; went on a journey to the PNW to “find himself” for 3 months; and recently returned from his last sojourn to Central America where he lived in a village teaching English for 6 months. I really thought he’d end up like this guy since he traveled alone.
My brother-in law is from Honduras and up until several years ago, would vacation there with my sister. However, it's gotten so dangerous there with the drug cartels and kidnappings that he vowed never to return.
They will vacation in the Bay Islands but only via direct flights from the U.S.........
