Three of the citys longest-running rubber room teachers have raked in more than $1 million each for a decade of not working in classrooms, and a fourth is paid a top salary $100,049 a year not to teach. The Foul Four who beat sexual-misconduct charges cant be fired by the Department of Education because they are entitled to job protections under state tenure laws, which require due process. Educators are entitled to a trial with an independent hearing officer who decides whether any misconduct warrants termination.

Oddly enough, most good teachers that get caught up in that crap which this nonsense seeks to protect with all its headspinning would quit in frustration long before it got to the end and they were cleared.
I went into teaching after retiring from the military. While expecdting dramatic changes from the time I was student (25 years earlier), I was stunned by the lack of discipline in the school; the inmates were literally running the asylum and administrators were unable or unwilling to regain control.
Spent three years in teaching before moving on...most disappointing years of my life. I salute the few, quality teachers who can actually impart knowledge to the young skulls full of mush and motivate them to learn.
Unfortunately, teachers of that caliber are few and far between; these days, too many are butt kissers, clock watchers and political hacks who make sure they are aligned with their union and its policies. If you’re in tight with the (incompetent) administrators and the union shop bosses, you’re a cinch for tenure, regardless of teaching skill. And once tenure is secured, the level of effort dissipates pretty fast.
To be fair, there are still a few good public schools. My grand-daughter goes to an excellent middle school in a county where the median income is between $60-70K a year, and the parents are actively involved. But I can drive 15 miles from that location and show you schools in a near-by district that look (and operate) like something in the Third World. Actually, that’s a bit unfair, since most third world schools are more orderly than their American counterparts.
Public education in American is largely dead and done, but no one is willing to admit it. My advice to anyone with children preparing to enter school (and outside the few “quality” districts) is simple: home school, private school or move to a good district. Make the sacrifices required, and both you and your child will be eternally grateful.
I would agree, that is a likely scenario.
I always appreciate your insightful comments as a former NYC dweller myself. Where did you escape to, generally speaking?
LOL! You're not the only one who feels that way. I left in 1980 and haven't been been back for over fifteen years.
You couldn't pay me enough to go back for even one day.
tenure?
Then give them their day in court.
??
Teachers again
Have you looked at the sites / links I gave you?
And both groups combined is one tenth the amount for parents and other family members.
If the link does not work cut and paste it into your browser. More than 80 percent of victims (84%) were abused by a parent or parents. Mothers acting alone were responsible for 47 percent of neglect victims and 32 percent of physical abuse victims. Non relatives, fathers acting alone, and other relatives were responsible for 29 percent, 22 percent and 19 percent, respectively, of sexual abuse victims.
I told you that the links don’t work.
And I told you to cut and paste and put it in the browser. Just as I said in post 29 on this thread.
Look at this, todays news from the cesspool. THIRTY year rap sheet, 36 arrests and he’s out walking the street engaging in his favorite hobby. And you know what, they’ll let him out AGAIN...
I read the story and I’m not surprised. Yet another reason to never return.
