I’m a cop and I don’t excuse it. The cops in question exceeded their departments use of force policy. Start “coloring outside the lines” and you get indicted. That’s what the use of force policy is there for, to tell you what is and is not acceptable. Personally, I’ve never liked the “cowboys” in my agency, they tend to suck others into their stupidity when they get into trouble. Fortunately my agency seems to have a good grip on this sort of thing. Please don’t assume all of us are JBT’s because we pin on a badge before we go to work.

I don't think anybody assumes all police are JBTs, but like peaceful moslems, they just don't matter.
They will neither support the victims, nor fight against the perpetrators.
.............I think I am gonna come down on your side on this one!
I don’t condemn you. You are given an impossible job. We need cops to protect us from violence. Instead you are tasked with enforcing a million laws that have nothing to do with violence.
In this particular case the victim was suspected of depriving the State of tax money. It shouldn’t have been something the cops needed to be concerned about.
Sorry bro but times are changing fast. My grandfather was a Detroit cop, my dad was a Detroit cop and up until recent years I've always respected cops and treated them accordingly.
My attitude towards them has changed drastically, I don't respect them any more even tho I show them respect. Instead, they scare the hell out of me and respect should not be a result of fear...........
As a side note, I play senior softball with a number of retired Detroit and suburban cops and their attitudes and demeanor is stereotypical of what an obnoxious cop is imagined to be.........
” Please dont assume all of us are JBTs because we pin on a badge before we go to work.”
O.K., I won’t! But when will guys like you insist on cleaning out your respective agencies of this kind of trash? I mean here on FR, we get a daily dose of the routine abuse of citizens by “your brother officers!” Protecting yourselves at the expense of the citizens. You can start by all observing all the laws that you enforce on the rest of us. You all remind me of the old saying “ Why does a dog lick his balls.” Answer, “because he can.” Seems to me that the cops have an “omerta” as solid as the crime families today. You need to start seeing your job in light of those of us who pay you, instead of yourselves. Personally, I never want the cops where I live anywhere near my home and there is virtually no real crime here. I don’t want to have to try and discern whether or not a cop is decent and honest, because too many of them are not.
Sorry, but I have to agree with the others here on this. The ‘good’ cops are far too willing to look the other way for the bad cops. They choose Team Blue over right and wrong. If a cop doesn’t choose Team Blue, like the FHP officer that stopped a Miami piglet going 120mph to his off duty job, they are hounded out.
LE stood up for Officer Harless of Canton OH. They even gave up sick leave so he could keep getting paid.
Officers stood up for the cop who decked a woman at some festival, because someone else splashed him with water.
LE actively seeks ways around our rights, like the fake 911 story, and fighting to have the right to go through cell phone data at will. Their motivation is to get around our rights, not ensure they PROTECT our rights.
Any group will be tared with the behavior they allow their own. And LE is very willing to accept bad actors. I can’t help you with that. All I can do is what LE officers won’t do, call out the trash among you.
And don’t even get me started on that SWAT trash.
I respect your service, but what I fail to understand is how these bad cops are let off with a comparative wrist-slap. Why do the good cops put up with it? If I read a story tomorrow that these two new desk jockeys were beaten within an inch of their lives by unidentified fellow officers I’d stand up and cheer and a tiny bit of respect would be restored.
Too bad so many are in the news for really bad crap - stains the good ones too. Be safe.
