Nun Expects to Become Target of Radical Islamic Group (ISIS)
NBC San Diego ^ | Saturday, Jul 19, 2014 | Omari Fleming

Imagine being killed because of your religion. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), a radical Islamic group, says this will start happening in Iraq by Saturday and the threat is sending shockwaves through the community of more than 50,000 Chaldeans in the San Diego area.

At St. Michael Chaldean Church in El Cajon, locals are hoping for peace. Chaldeans visit the church in east San Diego by the thousands to pray for the thousands of victims killed in Iraq and people being persecuted because of their religion.

One of the women praying there is Sister Francois.

Though she’s a woman of peace, she fears she will become a target when she returns to Iraq. Using the little English she speaks, she shared her story with NBC 7 Friday, including why she's risking life and limb to return to her order in Mosul, Iraq.

"My mission is there. I’m nun," she said, speaking through translator Mark Arabo, a San Diego-based Chaldean-American spokesman and community leader.

ISIS is laying down a new law in Iraq, giving Christians like Sister Francois until Saturday to accept: Convert to Islam, pay extra taxes or face death by sword.

With Arabo’s help, Sister Francois talked about seeing others pay the price due to the radical Islamic group.

“They're raping children, beheading mothers and fathers. She hasn’t seen it as bad as it is now,” explained Arabo.

Francois said not even clergy members are safe.

Case in point: After 17 days in captivity, Islamist rebels freed two Chaldean nuns and three young Iraqis in Mosul this week.

“They've taken over almost everything – from freedom to religion. They’re trying to slaughter them,” said Francois.

ISIS is a Sunni-dominated al-Qaeda splinter group. Their goal is to create an Islamic state. Already the United Nations said more than 1,500 civilians died in June as ISIS continues its reign of terror.

For his part, Arabo has been talking to the State Department to get help.

"Short term we’re mapping out a safe passage for 400,000 Christians and minorities alike to Kurdistan and Turkey," he said.

A rational nation would welcome these people with open arms as quickly as possible.

Speaking of rational nations, as in 1948, are Christians nearing the point of needing a homeland?

Why would there be?

As for refugee status, this was actually denied to Christians under Bush, not by him, but by the Democrat legislature, and Bush as usual didn’t have the guts to oppose it.

And as for our current immigration problems, one of the first things that Obama did, literally the day after his inauguration, was to take thousands off the legal quota for Latin Americans and give it to Muslims and people from the ME, but of course not including Christians. That’s why we ended up with the Muslim Charnaev brothers killing harmless American marathoners, at the same time piling up good potential legal Latin American immigrants at the border and then having Obama cynically manipulate the law so these stupid, desperate people in Central America somehow thought he had given them or at least their children the go-signal. He’s an evil man, and cruel, cruel, cruel.

That said, it didn’t seem to me as if the good sister expected any support from the US, and she’s being very realistic about this. Christians are going to live and die on their own, because this country certainly isn’t going to support them.

Oh, please. It was done with Bush's full intention. Bush called Islam, the, "Religion of Peace." He asserted good things about Islam, but never about Christianity. He despises Christianity.

Democrats denying people refugee status in the US? Do Democrats only support amnesty and refugee status to foreigners who pose a demonstrable economic or social threat to the US?

I agree 100%. They said there are 400,000 Christians in the area. Surely they could field a force equal to or larger than the Goat Humpers from ISIS?

It also seems to me that if ISIS wants to be extra cruel, those opposed to them should meet them with at least the same.

The people in their path have to either flee, fight or die. And if there’s nowhere to go, they can die or fight back. Jesus didn’t say we had to lay down and die, did He? Cannot a Christian defend his own life and those of his faith?

If people would hit them hard enough, and enough of the ISIS hotheads met their maker, then they may not be so eager to fight.

Right now, it’s a big fun game for them; lot’s of bloodshed, lots of raping girls, boys and livestock, all while being urged on by your holy men telling you your doing Allah’s will. Like a pervert’s real-life video game.

I think it’s important to stop them sooner than later.

Where? Uganda? Some could form communities like Muslims and Jews do, taking over Wyoming or something is not likely, while Christians have always been pilgrims in a foreign land, their home being with the Lord.

Preaching to me:

"Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;" (1 Peter 2:11)

"That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;" (Philippians 2:15)

"For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance." (Hebrews 10:34)
