First priority is to secure our borders, now. Next step will be to maintain them while also applying a strict enforcement of immigration laws already in place. Deportation of people simply over-staying their visitor visas was still occurring within the past ten years. What happened since is just a guess, probably it's partially due to increased illegal border crossings, some political game-playing against ICE and the C-change are country went through when Obama took up residence in the White House.
