Perry expected to call up National Guard to Rio Grande Valley

Gov. Rick Perry is expected to announce Monday that he will activate up to 1,000 Texas National Guard troops to the Rio Grande Valley, state Sen. Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, D-McAllen, confirmed Sunday night.

Perry wants these troops to bolster the work already being done with a surge of Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, said Hinojosa's spokesperson, Jennifer Saenz, who added that the governor gave the Rio Grande Valley delegation notice prior to the planned 2 p.m. announcement on border security.........

In Iowa on Sunday, Perry told a small group at a VFW hall that if President Barack Obama fails to heed his longstanding request to send 1,000 additional National Guard troops, he would use his authority as governor to do so.

"We've sent the message that if we don't get the satisfaction that the federal government's going to move and move quickly, then the state of Texas will, in fact, fill that void," Perry told the group...........

“This sets up a dilemma for Obama. Perry would be defending the border, while Obama will oppose him because the Federal Government has the responsibility to secure our borders, which it refuses to do. So, will the Federal Government tell its troops or officers to use deadly force to enforce its decision NOT to secure our borders? In essence will the personnel under his control be willing to commit an act of war against the United States by using deadly force against U.S. National Guardsmen?”

Should Perry activate some units of the Texas National Guard, it could setup an interesting situation between the Feds and Texas. I’ve just read the Posse Comitatus Act; not a lawyer, but if I understand this law correctly, if a governor activates his/her Guard for an emergency then it is exempted from the act. Meaning as I understand this law, the governor has the authority to set the rules of engagement, which I believe would include deadly force. However, it seems to me that the PCA prohibits the Feds from doing this. Sooo, seems to me that if troops are going to be utilized along the border then under state juristiction is the right way to do it, especially being that the drug cartels are now using 50 cal Barrett’s....

My understanding is that once the National Guard is called up by a state the President can nationalize them.

So Perry needs to make sure that he calls up that national guard that is beholden to Texas first.

Ted Cruz has got to know by now that the majority coming across the border are not children but gang members and criminals run out of their own country and people wanting subsidies. While we complain about social security and blame seniors ..guess who is draining the nation.

he is serious, when he puts a lot more than 1k on the border, and they implement a mine field, tunnel sensors to make a real border.

This could get interesting.

Perry uses the Texas National Guard, and Hussein opposes him and demands he stop using the military to defend our national borders.

Perry demands Obama uphold his oath to the Constitution, and Bathouse Barry spends another weekend with Reggie Love while Manchelle eats a lobster.

Perry has hinted at Texas secession many times.

Rick Perry Takes Stand On Texas Secession Issue

Texas governor says secession possible

The country would go ballistic (as would the media) if the biggest job creator state in the nation did this. It might wake up the nation.

The Texas/Mexican border is 1254 ft long. We don't know how many border guards are there now.

In the meantime, you can bet Holder and Obama are doing dirty during this "no message" time....trying to write an Executive Order that will make Perry's call up null and void....but very expensi8ve for Texans.

There was a time when securing the border was the Number one item.

How many muzzies have crossed into the USA. All they needed was a child at their side....and child hostages are nothing new to muzzies.

In IOWA!!!!!!! Why not just do it, Rick? Why do you have to be on the campaign trail talking about it. You kinda remind me of the jester in the white house, just yacking on about it....do it. Yep, Ol Campaign Rick is hard at it I see. This is more of a “throw something on the wall and see if it sticks” routine.

Hey Rick if you have advisers on here you might want them to tell you to be a lil more decisive. The horse is way down the road and the gate is still wide open.

This band-aid is just that a band-aid. 1000 will not even cover one sector of the border. Why don’t you call up the state militia and any volunteer that wants to go that passes a background check or has a conceal carry. Now that would be a big decision on your part and show some real guts.

Depending on what their assignments are and how soon they are stationed and for how long, this smacks of the same kind of posturing GW Bush did when he 'ordered 6,000 NG on the border'.

GW's 6,000 were gradually assigned, for a few weeks at a time, in groups, over a period of months, so there was never a full complement of 6,000 at the border at one time. It was a political ploy to appease the anti-amnesty/secure-the-border voices.

Additionally, GW's 6,000 were assigned to filing paperwork, filling out forms, washing vehicles, etc. They were not even allowed to carry weapons.

Regrettably, Hinojosa may be right, since Perry is making sounds of wanting to run for the presidency again.

Trying to secure the border against the endless efforts of the Obama government is playing whack-a-mole. The problem is in the White House; it must be dealt with. Obama can always shift tactics, with each strike further weakening the US until it collapses or it totally under the control of the Marxist enemies of what the country once was.

1254 ft is less than 3 miles. Are you sure it isn’t 1254 miles instead?
