It’s a sad day to see a senior veteran dying, but helping them leave this life without pain or hardship is a must.
The Albany Stratton VA Medical Center is under fire for giving patients salt-water mixtures to patients that are in need of morphine or other high-powered pain killers.
Valerie Riviello, a nurse at the VA reported the incident saying she couldn’t stand to see it go on anymore.
The postmortem drip of salt-solution has been administered for some time from the stories being told by Riviello. A nurse treating a hospice patient had to steal a vile of morphine to help the dying patient with his pain.
Peter Potter, a spokesman for the Albany VA, wouldn’t comment on the incident but offered details that confirmed officials are investigating the problem.
Riviello is one of the dozens of whistleblowers deeply involved in the VA scandal investigation. She also reported an incident about a female veteran that had been a victim of sexual trauma. The female vet had been physically restrained for hours while under the supervision of a male attendant.
“It’s like a nightmare,” said Riviello, “This is not suppose to be reality.”

Yet it is exactly what to expect if the federal government ever takes over the nation’s health care.

It is normal saline, not “salt water” although that sounds more inflammatory.
They weren’t giving normal saline instead of morphine by purpose. The morphine was being stolen and replaced by normal saline. That has happened or will happen in every medical facility.
Prefilled syringes are emptied and refilled with saline as it has a similar appearance. This is why in many facilities morphine syringes are tested after being used. It is a widespread problem and not in just VA hospitals.
The VA system has many problems, focus on the ones that exist.

I wonder if Glen wants us to add this to the list of atrocities to ignore so we can focus on the children coming across the southern border illegally.
I have a feeling the problems at the VA happen at many health facilities, not just the VA. Doctors and medical staff rarely report each other. To compound this, idiots thought it would be a good idea to shield these same medical “professionals” from lawsuits.
How’s that tort reform working out? I’m still waiting on those price savings proponents promised everyone. So far they have failed in every aspect, not delivering a shred of benefit to patients. After ten years, and seeing what is going on at the VA, looks like tort ref whores were nothing but pawns for greedy doctors and insurance companies. There isn’t another sector of business on earth more shielded from their own professional negligence and arrogance.
The first thing everyone learns at Boot Camp is
“SHUT UP AND QUIT COMPLAINING!”
That is reinforced throughout however many years you spend in the military. The VA knows that Veterans come with this training. They count on it. Nobody else in America would quietly suffer the treatment that Veterans receive from the VA. They received bonuses for treating Veterans poorly.
