D'Souza book outsells No. 2 book by 8,000 copies, still left in No. 2 spot by New York Times

Dinesh D'Souza book is No. 1 on BookScan this week, far outdistancing Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, 25,714 to 17,785. In spite of those numbers, New York Times list again left Dinesh's book at No. 2 on the list that just released two minutes ago. Completely rigged. Last week was close enough to give benefit of the doubt. This week is a complete joke.

Bunkerville is still relevant and timely —he needs to get out a movie soon about it.

Make hay while the sun shines.

F&F and Benghazi also might make for low-hanging fruit.

“Liberal arithmetic” or “liberal scorekeeping” are subject to a number of “finagle factors” that always gives them the answer they want, or at least the one they have projected.

Now, some very small store somewhere, that sells a couple of copies of a specific title, is weighted much more heavily than, say, a Wal-Mart sale of hundreds of copies, because the people who buy from the small retailer are more “significant” readers, and thus the QUALITY of the sale, not the quantity, is the determining factor.

You are exactly right. It sounds like you are being sarcastic but it’s actually reality.

Probably similar to the "seasonal adjustments" that add imaginary jobs to the statistics so that the official unemployment number goes down even though fewer people have jobs.

And we are surprised at media bias for what reason exactly?

The NYT is in the 1,001st spot on my list of rags, just behind The Communist Liar’s Chronicle.

WE aren’t surprised. However, the average individual thinks that the New York Times best sellers list actually means, oh I don’t know, best sellers.

Authors have been trying to second guess the New York Times list for years. You have to remember that the list is sampling (like a poll) it is not based on absolute or comprehensive numbers. For starters, the NYT lists are based on sales from TWO WEEKS previous to the list date. The fact is, even today with computers it is still very difficult to determine absolute sales of a book over a time period as short as a week with inventories spread far and wide and in various stages of shipment and fulfillment. Most best-seller lists try to balance the RATE of sales and how widespread sales are in disparate locations. I don’t necessarily agree with how they do it, or even claim to know in depth how they come up with their rankings, but suffice it to say it’s really hard to second-guess those numbers. I offer this after a decade of following book sales lists and sales tracking methods. My wife is a best-selling author so it’s important to me. D’Souza is doing really well and his rankings are bound to change in the coming weeks, but I don’t necessarily see an ideological bias in these numbers.

I do the same as you and have been studying them for years as well. I agree with you and am well aware of their methodology. I gave the New York Times the benefit of the doubt last week, because obviously the Hillenbrand book has greater distribution in independents, which the Times favors greatly. This week, with an 8,000 unit disparity on BookScan, it’s hard to believe that it’s anything but bias. That’s a significant disparity. The other thing is that the average person thinks that a “best sellers list” is based on, oh I don’t know, sales.

That book is a fantastic read, FANTASTIC read. There is so much information in there, chapter by chapter, to knock down almost any “movement” today and historically and logically waste liberal opponents. I hope freepers will read his book before the elections (both mid-term and 2016) and get ready to verbally knock out any liberal (and when the liberal has absolutely no way to defend their position, because they won’t, and they wanna get physical; smile while you drop them.)

I like referencing Amazon for best seller since it’s the number of books sold rather than some critic at the NYT saying what he/she likes - or something.
