Communist Party Ousted From Ukraine Parliament

The Communist Party of Ukraine will cease to exist on Thursday, the speaker of Ukraine's parliament announced.

"We only have to tolerate this party for another day," Verkhovnaya Rada speaker Oleksandr Turchinov said on Wednesday in comments carried by online news portal Ostro.org.

Discussion of the Communist Party's dissolution began in earnest in May, after party leader Petro Simonenko said that if he were in charge of the country, he would immediately call back the troops from eastern Ukraine, referring to the military operations taking place there as acts of "war against the people," RIA Novosti reported.

Turchinov, who was serving at the time as acting president, then appealed to the Justice Ministry to request an investigation into the Communist Party's activities.

Russia's State Duma denounced the move at the time, viewing it as an attempt by the new Kiev authorities to "force political and civil forces that do not agree with the path taken by the ultranationalist powers to shut up," according to RIA Novosti.

The Verkhovnaya Rada paved the way for the party's dissolution on Tuesday by amending its rules to vest the speaker of the house with power to dissolve the Communist Party. On Tuesday evening, President Petro Poroshenko signed a bill giving effect to the new regulations.

Turchinov's announcement was made on Wednesday morning amid heavy infighting.

Speaking before his fellow parliamentarians, Simonenko made a statement about Ukraine's security services having allegedly "destroyed" citizens for black-market organ transplants, Interfax reported, citing members of the nationalist Svoboda Party.

Svoboda Party members then accused Simonenko of disseminating false information, and endeavored to physically eject him from the parliament.

An all-out brawl promptly ensued.

Amid the chaos, Turchinov exercised his new powers to announce the party's impending dissolution, before calling for a 15-minute break so deputies could calm down. Following the news, all of the Communist Party members present at the time then reportedly walked out.

Next up is the Party of Regions, that Svoboda also wants banned.

This has been floating around in the ether all day, but this is the first English Language article I've seen.

While I can't support anything the "Communist Party" stands for, they are the legitimate elected reps for their areas, and this just adds even more fuel to the Russian Media memes out there about who is really in control in Kiev.

The regime is moving to silence all dissent, and also declared "Marshal Law Lite" today. Let the "Piano voting" commence!

The Communists all over the world have been supporting Moscow. They should be banned here too, including politicians with links to the KGB, though you'd have to go underground too, tcrlaf.

All of this comes on the heels of a Communist Party official being arrested, tortured, and killed by Kiev police, yesterday.

I’m surprised they didn’t round them all up and shoot them in 1991.

Meanwhile, in the afro-soebarkah dictatorship of Obama and the activist courts, the communist party is doing just fine. They’re called Democrats!

lol...
You’re funny.
I am ANYTHING but a communist, feel free to check my decade of postings.

Because I don’t accept the Kiev OR Moscow PR line at face-value, you might as well have called me, “A racist that hates the idea of black President”, right?

There communist movement has a global and international component which the nationalist and Western conservatives do not have.

Correction:

The Communist Member of the Rada was named V.M. Kovshun.

He was arrested and tortured to death by Kiev’s National Guard, not the police.

You are a liar. You always take the Moscow PR line, and you even dance when Ukrainians are killed.

As for your decade of posting, considering your strategic lies told on this forum, even lies told about me, knowingly, I do not think you are a normal poster. A normal poster does not lie to the degree that you do. You are either some kind of a psycopath, or else you infiltrated this forum a decade ago. I am happy with either conclusion, however.

Anything to add about the story above? Or are you just flame trolling again?

tcrlaf has been on FR a long time. If you’re going to accuse him of something, present evidence.

I have to say I predicted this was going to happen. I would not be surprised if Ukraine saw the rise of a Lukaschenko-like figure any day now.

When in Rome........

Tactically and politically, you have to do some suppression. If it gets out of hand, it could be a problem but we have to wait and see.

What I am saying is, that if this had happened in the US and we had fractious parties in Congress or even groups like the Black Caucus. They would be likely suppressed until order is restored in the country. We might even institute martial law as well as wide open detainment policies.

It seems to me, that a number of you seem to have knee jerk reactions to every action taken by the Ukraine government. At least it seems so to me.

I would ask you to consider what I have said. We would act no differently if it happened to the US.

And it might......
