Central America Leaders Plead for Help from Washington Amid Border Crisis
The Washington Post ^ | Thursday, July 24, 2014 | David Nakamura and Ed O'Keefe

Central American presidents sharply criticized Washington on Thursday for failing to address the root causes of violence and poverty in their countries that helped spur a recent influx of child migrants to the United States.

“Washington must understand that if there exists drug violence in Central America, if there is no peace, if there is a lack of opportunity, this will redound to enormous costs to the United States,” Honduras’s Juan Orlando Hernández said during an appearance with Guatemala’s Otto Pérez Molina at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

The two leaders repeatedly described the situation as a “crisis” but said they are eager to work with the U.S. government to form a new long-term regional pact to address the crisis.

The two presidents met with members of Congress in the morning to press their case for more U.S. aid, a day before they were set to meet with President Obama and Vice President Biden. Salvador Sánchez Cerén, the president of El Salvador was scheduled to arrive in Washington later Thursday and also will attend the White House conclave.

The meetings come as the Obama administration and Capitol Hill lawmakers debate how to ramp up efforts to stem the flow of more than 57,000 unaccompanied children and another 55,000 adults with children who have been apprehended along the border since last October. The numbers are far higher than in past years, driven largely by an exodus of Central Americans who are hoping they will be allowed to remain in the U.S.

Guatemala can go F itself.Last week they were signing a treaty with Mexico to make it easier for their citizens to get to our country.
Bottom line is,the politicians in Central America want a pay-off.

Central American leaders are the international equivalent of squeegee men, and America just stopped at a green light.

Yeah Juan we’re not the world’s piggy bank anymore. Obama fixed that!
Now you expect us to feed, clothe, house, educate, and provide free healthcare for all of your walking breeding machines when our damned citizens can’t get any help!

The One’s day is coming and it’s going to be one of his own people not us. It’s gonna be ugly.

After reading the first sentence, I had to look and see if it was satire.

They are complaining that the US is not fixing their problems?

Given that the US Federal Reserve is printing trillions of soon-to-be-worthless dollars, there are multitudes looking for handouts.

How come we don't hear the term OBAMANOMICS out there?

If these “children” were legitimate refugees, they’d be in camps in the first safe country they came to. Wouldn’t that be Belize or Mexico? Letting them cross the border from Mexico makes no sense, since they were safe enough in Mexico to travel across that country.

These losers are doing everything they can to paint this as a USA-caused problem.

Yes, drugs come from central America to the USA, but where do the drugs come from to begin with, that come into south America in the first place? Why aren’t they as vocal against that nation or nations? And why haven’t they stopped the traffic before it gets to the USA and contaminates our populace?

Yes, we went in and helped Columbia clean up their drug problem, but that was supposed to be an example of leadership for other central/south American countries to do the same. And they didn’t.

The USA has spent billions combatting central American drugs. The drug trafficking problem is a central American corruption problem, not an America-caused problem.
