NYPD detains men who had pressure cookers to 'prepare rice'
NY Post ^ | July 26, 2014 | Gary Buiso and Jamie Schram

Posted on 07/26/2014 9:47:48 AM PDT by whatexit

Police detained two men at a Midtown hotel late Friday after a doorman reported they possessed a pair of pressure cookers like those used to make the Boston Marathon bombs. But the men say it was a misunderstanding: They plan to use the pressure cookers to prepare rice, chicken and meat.

The weirdest part is that they are, or claim to be, IDAHO RESIDENTS.

No but there were other ingredients but none were usual suspects for a pressure cooker. Pressure cookers are usually not used by novices. My wife has a Masters in Home Ec and was raised on a farm. She’s one of the few people I know who use one comfortably.

Rodney Dangerfield: I bought my wife a pressure cooker. Now we eat off the ceiling.

Pressure cookers are good for cooking rice, and faster than a rice cooker.

Do I believe their story? No.

Rice? In a pressure cooker?

Yes. It’s great if done correctly. It should be cooked in a smaller pot inside the pressure cooker, raised off the bottom so it doesn’t scorch.

Nope, shouldn’t be questioned.

Take a report of who they are, what they look like, what kind of car they are driving and license plate #.

Leave it at that.

If I were to check into a motel with a 55gal drum of diesel in back of my truck should I be questioned by police because some left wing freak thinks I might be another Tim McVeigh?

After all diesel is one half of a bomb and I’m a white male just like Tim McVeigh.

You want to live in a police state, go somewhere else, don’t bring it here.

This is the only way I cook rice. Five minutes once it reaches pressure and then about five minutes while it decreases pressure naturally. Rice comes out perfect every time.

Well, I don’t know much about rice...I haven’t eat rice since 1969 when I returned from Vietnam...I had enough there to last a lifetime...

Doesn’t a pressure cooker require a stove? Or do they have electric ones now?

In any case, I’m sure they are lying and were planning to make bombs. If the cops released them they are idiots, they should have just charged them with terrorism and found a way to let them stew in jail.

Or pressure cook in jail.

Something like that.

Thank you, I wear that as a badge of honor.

Police staters call everyone a fool that resist the police state, because the police state is a safe state, and only a fool doesn’t want to be safe.

I confess Mr. police state I’ve got a pressure cooker.

What you plan on doing about it, turn me in and have me questioned by the police?

Maybe the police will charge me and everyone else that owns a pressure cooker with part of a grand conspiracy to blow up the world.

“They said they found the pressure cookers."

Many people go to NY City to find free, brand new pressure cookers.

It's become one of the major attractions.

you stay at a luxury hotel but don't eat in the restaurant or call room service

That part I get. NYC food is expensive and room service is even more so. Getting a plain meal such as chicken, rice and veggies without weird sauces and seasonings can be difficult.

If they're going to be arrested for possession of pressure cookers, it should be a stated policy. Otherwise, what's next? No steak knives? etc

The easiest and most efficient way to cook rice:

One cup of rice & two cups of water + salt in a covered saucepan.

Bring to a boil on the stove/hibachi/three-stone fire/whatever.

Place covered saucepan in a well insulated box. We use large loose pillows filled with Styrofoam (EPS) beads.

Your rice will be ready in 10-15 minutes.

Works great on spaghetti, too.

They couldn’t decide if they found or purchased the pressure cookers.
