Back in January, Nancy Pelosi had an infamous interview with Jon Stewart of “The Daily Show” that crystalizes what the 2014 election – just 100 days from today – is really all about.
Pressed on the problems with the rollout of ObamaCare, Stewart asked Pelosi whether Democrats needed to make a stronger case for the “competence of government” if they were going to try to pass large, expansive programs.
“Why is it so hard to get a company to execute that competently?” Stewart said of the ObamaCare website.
Stunned, Pelosi responded simply: “I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know,” Stewart said, jumping out of his chair. “How do you not know?!”
Stewart’s question was basic and simple – but important and revealing. And it’s exactly what American voters are asking as they watch what’s happening in Washington: Big government bureaucracies careening out of control. From the Veterans Administration to the IRS, something’s gone terribly wrong and people are suffering as a result.
No matter where you stand on the list of issues facing our country right now, one thing is abundantly clear: President Obama’s administration has proven itself wholly incompetent at running our government – even at a basic level. So it’s no surprise a plurality of Americans now view President Obama as the worst president since World War II.
Whether it’s the recent scandal in the Veterans Administration that has put our nation’s bravest heroes at risk, the security and humanitarian crisis occurring at our southern border, or the ongoing problems with the rollout and execution of ObamaCare – over the last two years, it’s clear that those who put their faith in big government solutions have a lot to explain to the American people.
That’s pretty relevant for two reasons in particular.
For one, the president and his party have executed an ambitious agenda since he took office to increase the size and scope of the federal government – an agenda they’d like to continue expanding. Yet, at the same time, they have proven themselves utterly incapable of making any of it work.
Secondly, the incompetence of this administration is further proof of why it’s so important there is a proper check and balance on President Obama’s administration and the bureaucrats he appoints.
When American voters elected Republicans to the House majority in 2010, they did so because we promised to be a check on President Obama, rein in the intrusion of government in their lives, and create jobs. That’s an obligation we’ve taken seriously.
I’ve been traveling across the country, and our candidates are running strong campaigns focused on how they will produce results for the American people – on jobs, the economy and health care, to name a few. Democrats, meanwhile, are stuck defending a status quo that simply isn’t working.
- In Arizona, Martha McSally is running another strong race against Democrat Ron Barber. McSally, a retired Air Force colonel and the first female fighter pilot to fly in combat, has a winning message about how she’ll fight for women in Congress – just like she did in uniform.
- Will Hurd in the 23rd District in Texas is a former CIA agent and successful businessman who has put freshman Democrat Pete Gallego on high alert. With the recent crisis at the border, this district is seeing first-hand the devastating consequences of this part-time president, and Gallego’s constant defense of Obama won’t play well in this district Mitt Romney won.
- Up in Minnesota, long-time Democrat Collin Peterson is facing a candidate who the press has called his “worst nightmare.” Republican Torrey Westrom is giving Peterson his toughest race ever, talking to Minnesota families and farmers about how Peterson’s support for Cap and Trade and the Pelosi agenda is making it more difficult for them to survive in the Obama economy.
- The son of Cuban exiles, Miami-Dade County School Board Member Carlos Curbelo is ready to bring change to Washington. He’s running against Democrat Joe Garcia, who in just under two years in office is already dogged by corruption allegations.
These are just a few of our incredible candidates who are offering a fresh voice in Washington versus the Democrats’ record of failed governance and incompetence.
Late Democratic Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan of New York once said, “The single most exciting thing you encounter in government is competence, because it's so rare.”
Today, that line rings true more than ever for Americans headed to the polls in just 100 days. If there ever was a time for a referendum election on an administration, this is that time.
And which of the two parties is more inclined, albeit only a margin more, to actually listen to conservatives in their demands and do something related thereto? ... The answer will reveal much about someone and their reasons for the ‘working to elect democrats by default/division’.
I certainly understand your point. I voted for McCain, and Romney, and Scott Brown in Massachusetts. But I guess it depends on your belief in how far gone this nation is, and what it will take to restore it, assuming that is even possible at this point.
Personally, I no longer believe that "a margin more" is sufficient to save us. The only way to to save this nation now is to put conservatives in political offices and enact an agenda based on free markets, limited government and the rule of law. As long as we have a Republican party that actively opposes those ends (and we do, obviously), then I believe our only (slim) hope is drastic action.
As long as the Republican Party believes it can continue to survive by being Democrat-lite, it will never change direction.
Only when the party understands that it must change or die can we hope to turn this country around. Our too-long-serving entrenched establishment politicians can still enjoy their comfy lifestyles, their wealth, power and prestige as members of a minority party. So why should they bother to change direction?
Surely a John Boehner (or an Eric Cantor -- had he not been defeated -- or a Mitch McConnell) would be just as happy to be minority leaders if the election cycle didn't go their way. Yes, they would prefer to be majority leaders, but what good would it be to them if a conservative Republican Party won the majority and then threw them out of their cushy positions and all those perks, replacing them with real conservatives?
Ask yourself -- which do you think Mitch McConnell would prefer -- a majority Republican party in which he was stripped of his position by a conservative majority, or a minority Republican party in which he could remain Senate minority leader because the majority of Republican senators were RINOs?
You may argue that we have no time to wait for the Republicans to realize that their only choice is to change or die as a viable party. But if we don't have time for that, then what makes you think we have time to wait for the RINOs and the GOP-e to pursue a "moderately marginal" course of action designed only to maintain their personal fiefdoms at the expense of a free America operating under the rule of Constitutional law?
The GOP had majority power in the House and Senate, and occupied the White House, 10 years ago. What did all that power do to move the agenda of liberty forward? Answer: nothing.
A GOP that cannot even sell liberty, limited governments and free markets to the American people is worse than useless. It is a party of tyranny enablers, and I will have none of it.
Unbelievably, today we are facing once again the stark choice between liberty and death.
Once again, these are the times that try men's souls. Conservatives need to be waging aggressive war against the totalitarian leftist tyrants on all fronts -- in the branches of government at the federal and state level, in academia, in the media, through public demonstrations, and in the voting booth.
You have apparently made your choice about the best way to proceed from this point on. But I respectfully disagree with that choice. I am done enabling.
If we really are to lose the greatest country in the history of the world, then let's at least be fighting for it when it goes down.
And who knows, maybe -- just maybe, if we show sufficient resolve and conviction -- divine Providence will once again provide the support that gave our founders their unlikely victory in 1776, and grant us once again the "new birth of freedom" that Lincoln called for a century later.

Did they give us back freedom by getting out of our lives.... NO
They did give us a new expensive Rx program, increase spending like crazy (not as much as Obama but close)
I'm torn on this but for sure I will be voting, I might leave out a race here and there but any dem voted for will be whatever the Pelosi/Reed wants because they strong-arm them to concur on every vote they want.
Oh if it’s about competence then nobody can win any of the elections. Politicians aren’t competent, the best you can hope for is that they be kind of honest in their stupidity.
Look...I cannot argue with you about RINOs.....I cannot stand them as much as you do, but.......if we don’t destroy the Democrat Party this coming November....this country is going to step into a nightmare they never, ever, considered or dreamed of!!! Forget the economy, immgration, climate change, big government, fraud, criminals, thugs, etc.. But we both know that even if the Republicans take the House and Senate in 2014, come 2016, we’ll be hearing the same argument for the Congressional races and for the Presidency.
I’ll tell you right now, I’m not voting for any RINO presidential candidates in 2016.

McCain was even weaker.....when Hannity pegged Obama to Hater, Racist, Rev. Jeremiah Wright....McCain told us all what a “good guy” Obama really was!!! Good guy....Obama hates the USA and every American in it, including, all African-Americans and Hispanics, etc.!!! We cut our own throats with these low life, “K” Street consultants that were secretly in Obama’s “destroy America camp”!!!
