BOSTON (Reuters) - Forty-six music fans were treated for mostly alcohol-related medical problems at Australian country singer Keith Urban's concert outside Boston on Saturday night, local officials said.

Fire and emergency medical personnel dealt with dozens of ill fans during the show at an outdoor arena in Mansfield, Massachusetts, about 25 miles (40 km) south of Boston, the town's police and fire departments said in a joint statement on Sunday.

Some 22 people were transported to area hospitals, mostly for alcohol-related illness, and more than 50 people were taken into protective custody by police, who noted that the large number of people needing treatment prompted authorities to call in ambulances from five nearby communities.

I'd have to be 'ill' to buy a ticket for a concert with him in the first place.

Keith Urban is a woman trapped in a man’s body. The View should hire her/him.

Wow I thought concerts were to go and enjoy music not wind up in the hospital over alcohol.

Hell I’d drink too if I was forced to attend a Keith Urban concert.

Once, during Prohibition, I was forced to live for days on nothing but food and water.

“... more than 50 people were taken into protective custody by police,...”

They were so drunk or drugged out that they needed to be taken into “protective custody” rather than be arrested to PI?

Yeah..let’s go ahead a legalize MJ and see how our youngster’s handle that along with the booze. They get it now, but once adults can buy it legally the teen problem will get even worse. I’ve just seen too many friends loose their kids to psychotic problems that started with teen MJ use. Putting legal labels on it will just encourage more kids to try it and make it more freely available.

Brings back memories of the good ol' days.

I remember seeing Van Halen and about 5 other hard rock bands at what was called "Sunday number One" (IIRC) at the CU campus in Boulder, Colorado. This must've been summer of 1986. I dunno. I used to see a lot of concerts back in those days...

Back then, the only thing security cared about were weapons, cameras, recording devices and glass bottles. Everything else was good. People would fill up empty gallon milk jugs with booze and sit all day in the hot sun just getting hammered. By the time the show started, people were passed out, puking, dehydrated, freaking out on drugs, etc. My seats were by the aisle that went up to one of the many medical stations. The entire show were nothing but stretchers going up with people in bad shape who most definitely were no longer having a good time.

Ahhh... Memories. It didn't make the news though. Pretty much par for the course for most outdoor rock shows back in the 80s.

I’ve thought ahout this so many times. Many years ago, when I was booking a club in the Boston area, we had agents calling us about this Keith Urban guy. We never bit. Then a short while later, he pulled in his horns and hooked up with some other people and was reincarnated as The Ranch. We never bit for that, either. Next thing you know, he was Keith Urban again, and we still didn’t bite. After I left the area, I one day heard that he was succeeding. I can’t begin to tell you how weird that was!! And now this nonsense back in the same area. Clearly, though, not an audience that cares about MUSIC, but just about how crazy they can get. Weird.

He was smart enough not to land himself ON a stretcher, by the sounds of it. Why shouldn’t he be proud of being smarter than that?

I saw Van Halen at the US Festival in 1983. Probably the very peak of their "career." I was in the Marines then and was stationed in Camp Pendleton. When the CO of my unit learned we were going, he scheduled us for a urine (drug) test the following week. So we didn't dare even go near somebody that was smoking something that was not tobacco.

Anyway, this Keith Urban puts on a good show as well, but it's country-rock, sort of Americana, geared towards the women but men can appreciate it as well. He puts on a pretty clean act so I'm not sure why so many people get crazy drunk at his concerts.
