Rand Paul To Travel Across Iowa In Presidential Campaign-Style Swing
The Daily Caller ^ | 7/28/2014 | Alex Pappas

Posted on 07/28/2014 6:46:47 PM PDT by iowamark

In a campaign swing resembling that of a presidential candidate, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul plans to make a three-day trip across Iowa next week, another indication that the libertarian-leaning Republican is gearing up for a 2016 presidential run.

Paul will be in Iowa from Aug. 4-6. He will make appearances at Iowa GOP offices in Council Bluffs, Sioux City, Cedar Rapids, Davenport and Des Moines, according to a spokesman for his organization, RandPAC.

He will also attend fundraisers for congressional candidates Steve King and Mariannette Miller-Meeks and the Cerro Gordo GOP. The senator will visit the Von Maur Corporate Headquarters and speak at the Westside Conservative Club Breakfast.

Paul’s trip to Iowa — the first state to hold a presidential nominating contest — comes the same day Paul named John Yob, a former aide to presidential candidate John McCain, as his national political director and chief strategist of his Michigan RANDPAC operation.

No other possible GOP candidate for president has been ramping up a national organization like Paul in recent months: Paul has also hired Iowa Republican Party Chairmen A.J. Spiker (and Steve Grubbs) and New Hampshire veteran Republican strategist Michael Biundo.

Even those Republicans who do not support Randy Paul for President respect his political following.

LOL, well I guess I’m in the minority then.

This guy and his dad are wing-nuts. Their supporters are disruptive and rude.

Wonder why Dr. Paul looks around and doesn’t see Mitch! standing there repaying past favors?

I’m afraid Rand will become a spoiler in the Republican primaries, perhaps for more than one presidential cycle.

He’ll be among the top three or four vote getters for candidates considered to be conservative, but will have no chance of winning due to his out there libertarian views on several issues. He’ll take enough votes from the one or two most competitive conservative candidates to prevent any conservative from defeating the top RINO.

And he’ll probably keep running primary after primary like his father did.

Conservatives definitely need a way to reduce the field of conservative candidates before the primary voting starts or it’ll probably be another vote splitting scenario that allows a RINO to win.

You are so right: Paul will appeal to non-conservatives who think they are “conservatives”.

It's his time. He can waste it any way he wants.

But, seriesly, Rand, why don't you try running for Governor of Kentucky first.

Let's see what kind of executive you make.

Yep.

I thought Rand might be able to be different, but he’s not. He potentially could have brought in the right parts of liberation thought into the Republican mainstream like Reagan did. Instead, he’s become unpredictable and unreliable during the past 12 months, and even left leaning on some issues. No thanks. I am fine with a Senator Rand, but not interested in a White House run.

The ego on these two is significant, by the way.

If I’d not read further down the thread, I’d think he was skipping Cedar Rapids.

Maybe I’ll go, just to ask him to state his positions on sealing the border and voter ID.

This guy and his dad are wing nuts. Their supporters are dispruptive and rude.

I thought dad made some good points in opposition to globalist meddling and the damage the Federal Reserve does to the US. Less federal gov is certainly appealing. The problem with dad was the the disruptive and rude supporters. You can't imagine how many times I was called dumb and an Obama lover (and worse) just for asking a question.

Paul the Younger does seem to have more control over most of his supporters. But he seems kind of crazy, and doesn't have the same anti-global warmongering and anti-Federal Reserve message. He's also too willing to support the status quo pols. Maybe the country is fed up enough to support "kind of crazy" this time. Might as well go down as a nation in style.
