Servicemen of the 51th mechanized infantry brigade, who crossed the Russian border, have been returned to Ukraine. They are suspected in desertion. Sources say, their mobiles have been taken away and the servicemen themselves are kept in custody.
A correspondent of a Ukrainian TV channel Roman Bochkala posted it on Facebook. “Tomorrow evening all the 41 people were taken to the military base A1978. Now the prosecutor’s people are questioning them and conducting other investigation procedures. The guys are suspected in desertion. There haven’t been any mentions of the “Treason” article as yet” – he pointed out.
“I don’t know under which circumstances they showed up in Ukraine. I’ve got the info from two sources – the wives of the arrested and from soldiers of the 24th brigade, who are also suspected in desertion, and they’re on the same base now” – the correspondent added.

On July 27 the Ukrainian Defense Minister Valeriy Galatey confirmed that 40 soldiers of the 51th mechanized rifle brigade had crossed the Russian border.
A bit later Ukrainian mass-media reported that 42 soldiers of the 51th brigade had crossed the Russian border near Izvarino check-point in Lugansk province. According to an officer of the brigade they were forced to do that avoiding continuous “terrorists’” firing.
They should never have betrayed their country.
