Obama needs to work on his foreign policy, not his golf game (L.A. Times)
Los Angeles Times ^ | July 29, 2014 | By Max Boot

Posted on 07/30/2014 12:38:23 PM PDT by Brad from Tennessee

Nero fiddled while Rome burned. On Saturday, President Obama played golf while his foreign policy, and that of the nation he leads, was going up in smoke. Literally.

Saturday was the day the State Department ordered the evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in Libya. Only three years ago, Obama helped NATO allies overthrow Moammar Kadafi as part of his “lead from behind” doctrine, but he has done little to help the resulting democratic government secure its authority.

Not only did the U.S. not support sending international peacekeepers, it didn't mount a serious program to train a new Libyan army. The predictable result has been utter chaos. In September 2012, U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed in Benghazi. In recent days, much of Tripoli's main airport has been destroyed in militia fighting. The embassy staff had to be evacuated overland as thick black smoke from the fighting hung over the Tripoli skyline.

In any other circumstances — and especially if the chief executive were a Republican — this would have been a scandal blared across the media. But at a time when we are witnessing the near-total collapse of American foreign policy, it barely registers.

It is hard, after all, for events in Libya to compete with the far greater catastrophe unfolding in Ukraine, where Russian President Vladimir Putin first annexed Crimea and now appears intent on detaching the eastern part of the country. When Ukraine mounted a sustained offensive against Russian-backed separatist militias, Putin upped the ante, providing his proxies with heavy weapons ranging from artillery and tanks to antiaircraft missiles. . .

I disagree.

We’re better off when Obama golfs. If anything he should golf more.

Agreed. He has Valerie Jarrett in Washington to take care of things while he is away as she does while he is there.

'Assad's scorched-earth campaign against Sunni Muslims, abetted by Lebanon's Hezbollah and Iran's Quds Force, remains as vicious as ever. Already far more people have died in Syria's civil war than have died in all of the Arab-Israeli wars of the past half-century, and there is no end in sight.'

It's a start.

Boot was all for supporting Syrian 'rebels'[terrorist] in the past. He seldom lacks a place in the world where he wouldn't want the US to 'intervene'.

Yikes, even Pravda on the Pacific can stand only so much.

Someone will be fired for this...

Let him golf. World’s problems are tough crap. War mongers continually want more of America’s blood and treasure. Protect our borders. Screw the world. Build America.

I’m gonna take a wild guess here. Max Boot is the LAT’s token conservative or token Republican, right?

Actually it is possible that Obama is a foreign policy Wiz. If the goal is Middle East chaos, removing dictators and abandoning friendly governments to make way for the Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS and the like then surely Obama gets an A+.

It all depends on your perspective. Or Valerie Jarrett’s.

You can bet he cheats on his score. Probably takes within 30 feet of the hole as a “gimme.”

If Obama Jivethon Lying Circus wants to be serious about curtailing Russia they should look at Reagan. IIRC the U.S. caused the price of oil to dip way down ($25 a barrel? $10 a barrel?).

I believe that oil products are still the number one (only?) income for Russia.

Just turn U.S. oil companies loose and see what happens.

Fat chance.

Screw 'im and all the aged 1960s Marxist-Alinsky campus radical, psycho spoiled brats and their ideological litters in the Administration.

First of all... someone is going to have to define ‘foreign policy’ for “O”
