DATING ETIQUETTE
Campus Report ^ | August 2014 | Deborah Lambert

Posted on 07/31/2014 10:09:24 AM PDT by Academiadotorg

Kerry Cronin, who teaches a philosophy class at Boston College, was shocked some years ago during a class on student hookup culture, when a student inquired, “How would you ask someone on a date?”

“It’s easy to hook up with someone you’ve just met in a dark room after having a few drinks,” said freshman Frank DiMartino, who took the class. “But asking someone out on a date in broad daylight, when you actually have to know their name, can be really scary.”

Other schools are apparently taking notice of the need to explain the socialization/dating procedure, according to The Boston Globe. At Duke University, the Counseling and Psychological Services office runs a series called “How to Be in Love,” which also “helps students, recognize “toxic romance” and analyze their break-ups.” And in a “weekly spring workshop, The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign included sessions on ‘being single and ready to mingle’ and ‘uncovering the dating scene,’among other topics.”

That’s you tax dollars at work America. Boys in addition to needing instruction on how a penis works, also now need to be taught how to form sentences during college conversations. What are we becoming?

I think it starts with ... hello ...

I could be mistaken, though

BC is a private school. But your point is well taken.

In theory, this is a good idea. Boys and girls DO need to return to the basics. They DO need to know how to date and act and behave while on a date.

Colleges and universities, however, are the LAST places that should be giving these instructions.

(Unless of course they are Christian universities.)

The biggest thing to know about asking somebody out on a date is that it’s no big deal. Really worst case scenario is they say no, not much of an impact. If they say no in a way that’s mean or rude that’s actually a good thing, you’ll be better off without them.

Second biggest thing to know is that dating actually kind of sucks.

Boston College is a Jesuit school.

The Jesuit universities have been aggressive about honoring pro-aborts at their commencements. This year, their commencement speaker was John Kerry. Of course, Cardinal O’Malley, who loves snuggling with pro-aborts, was there.

Boston College threw a huge memorial Mass to celebrate the glorious life of an abortion clinic receptionist who was shot by John Salvi. She was an alumna of B.C.

Not so long ago it was after how many dates do you have sex. Now it’s after how much sex can you start dating. Not funny.

I’m reminded of a line from the movie “Saturn II”

The guy sez to Farrah Fawcett, “You have a nice body. May I use it.”

Now that I think about it, my wife and I met at our 25 year high school reunion, which she flew 2,000 miles to attend. Our courtship consisted of 850+ emails and over $3,500 worth of long distance calls. On her first trip to visit me here, three months later, I proposed, and I’ve been in a marriage the likes of which is the stuff of chick films - for 16 years.

We never “dated”.

Geez, and to think that for thousands of years, people figured this stuff out all by themselves.

Truly, we're becoming a helpless society.

I genuinely feel sorry for this hookup generation. A culture of licentiousness has robbed it of so much of the beauty and sweetness and joy of life. Our culture mocks delayed gratification, but without it these young people have no clue on the pleasure of real romance where one actually gets to know the person they love before having sex. To them, sex is just an activity one does. It has no deep meaning or connection and provides no genuine intimacy.
