Louisiana businesses and consumers could face one of the most expensive federal regulations in history, according to a new study released Thursday (July 31) by the National Association of Manufacturers, an industry advocacy group.
The study, conducted for the association by NERA Economic Consulting, estimates it will cost Louisiana companies $189 billion over two decades to comply with new limits on ozone emissions the Environmental Protection Agency is slated to propose later this year.
The report says the Louisiana economy stands to lose as much as $53 billion in gross state product and nearly 117,000 jobs per year if the standards are implemented.
The EPA says current standards do not do enough to reduce ground-level ozone pollution, which contributes to smog and has been linked to respiratory and other health problems.

This was the intended outcome and is njust another victory for the EPA and the de-facto 4th branch of gov’t.
This is just a shakedown for campaign money.
I half expect this to be a “bad cop” for Landrieu to play “good cop”
Singe the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate intrastate environmental issues, I’m inclined to put most of the blame for potential problems for Louisiana businesses on low-information Louisiana voters who have evidently never been taught about the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers, as opposed to blaming everything on the constitutionally toothless EPA.
Not to invoke Godwin’s Law early, but one of the first key moves Hitler made was the passage of the Enabling Law, which pretty much delegated lawmaking authority to the Chancellor, making him a legitimitized dictator.
The EPA, and ACA regulations are chock full of “enabling powers” for various appointees.
There should be a limit on the reach and cost of any laws that are indirect, in the sense that they are executed with significant discretionary power.
EPA will chase many more large American corporations overseas and the kenyan will complain about the lack of patriotism of the owners of the corporations.
