Cantor is resigning (from Congress) on the 18th.

I hate GOP vacancies, even during a recess.

McAwful is asked to set the special election for November to coincide with the general election, so the district has a member during the lame duck session after the elections. I’m SURE he won’t try any shenanigans. What’s the law in VA, can McAwful decline to call a special election at all?

So he loses re-nomination, he's going to go home and sulk and force everyone to pay for a special election, rather than man up and serve out the last few months of his term with dignity.

I'm getting really tired of this BS from politicians who cut and run before their term is over. We really need some kind of law to punish them for resigning early for reasons other than emergencies (e.g. suffered major stroke and is unable to carry out his duties). These unnecesary special elections cause all kinds of problems (remember when Hastert gave Oberweis his blessing to succeed him and he managed to lose a safe GOP seat to an then unknown RAT?) Perhaps its needed even moreso than term limit laws.

It’s the American people who have acquiesced to all these foolish politicians though; they lack the knowledge and discipline to remove hardly any of them.

Ryan seems to have a strong hold on his liberal WI district. People in WI will never figure out Ryan.

I can’t think of how you could enforce that.

Charge every member a special election security deposit that they don’t get back if they resign unnecessarily? ;l
