Ebola Spiraling Out of Control: WHO

The deadly Ebola virus is moving faster than efforts to control it, the World Health Organization says. The warning came at the launch of a $100 million response plan to the epidemic.

The leaders of the three countries hardest hit by the recent Ebola epidemic - Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia - met on Friday in the Guinean capital, Conakry, along with the head of the World Health Organization, Dr Margaret Chan. Also at the meeting was the President of Ivory Coast.

The group came together to launch a $100 million (74.5 million euro) response plan to counter the rapidly spreading virus. The largest-ever recorded outbreak of Ebola has killed at least 729 people since the beginning of the year, including a number of doctors and other health workers.

The leaders discussed the deployment of hundreds of medical personnel to help overstretched workers and facilities, as well as better prevention methods - including better detection of cases and improved border surveillance.

Well, the elites certainly are of the opinion that there are too many humans at this point in time and to see the number dwindle to half or much less would certainly make them very happy, IMO.

In the U.S. the infected Ebola doctor is quarantined, in a very sophisticated unit, one of four now in place in the nation.

"one of four now in place in the nation."

I, for one, am glad that my overlords are so looking out for me....

Cases of Ebola that don’t die will be as much interest as cases that do.

Humorous catch phrase, but it doesn’t fit here.

It isn’t overlords who are making the most sense here... it’s what is still left of the beleaguered private American medical infrastructure. It is a university hospital. Hopefully they can watch this doctor either die or not die of Ebola and learn something about it.

Sure, and these two medical missionaries will probably live and will be invaluable to our local preparations.

The survival rate varies, and the stats all come from Africa and terrible conditions.

Ebola seems to act like a disease that needs more than just a virus to kill. Not every infection victim dies. Some don’t even get sick. But when it kills it does so gruesomely. I’m thinking there needs to be a superinfection of some undetermined kind in order for Ebola to kill. Being endemic in Africa there are all manner of jungle germs that could play this role.

I think that fatalities probably involve a superinfection.

The CDC should be going to Africa to sort this out rather than bringing examples here to study.
