Saar: Current War Started With the Disengagement

Interior Minister Gideon Sa'ar participated in an event commemorating the ninth anniversary of the 2005 Disengagement from Gaza. The event took place at the Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem.

Speaking at the event Sunday evening, Sa'ar, in comments aimed at Prime Minister Biyamin Netanyahu, said that Israel “cannot remove the blockade around Gaza as long as the Hamas terror authority is ruling there. Just the opposite,” he said. “We need to strengthen the blockade.”

Israel's tragic error leading to the current war could be traced directly back to the Disengagement, Sa'ar said. “There can be no security without settlement,” Sa'ar said. “The basic right of Israel to its land is directly tied to Israel's security in the land. Where there is no settlement the IDF does not go, and where the IDF does not go the terrorists take over. We have now seen how the removal of Gush Katif has harmed the security of Israelis, from the south to the center of the country.”

Gush Katif settlers, he said, were a “protective wall” for all of Israel against terror attacks. “Terror has not dissipated since the Disengagement; it has increased. Settlement in Judea and Samaria is the protective belt for the center of the country, and it must be assisted and encouraged. We cannot establish yet another terror state in the Land of Israel....

Those who attack Israel should keep in mind that in the quest for a lasting peace, Israel gave back Gaza to the Palestinians. Unfortunately,
“Those who ignore History are damned to repeat it” George Santayana.

Hamas follows a Palestine terrorist tradition. Remember the PLO. Hussein, the king of Jordan opened the door of his country to Palestinian refugees, and in 1970 almost two-thirds of the Jordanian population was Palestinian, and how they show their gratitude, Yasser Arafat, attempted to dethrone King Hussein, to assassinate him in three occasions and to turn his army against him. He lied to the King, betrayed him.

Remember “Black September”: The Jordanian-PLO Civil War of 1970 exploded. A bloodbath ensued. Up to 15,000 Palestinian militants and civilians were killed, swaths of Palestinian towns and refugee camps, where the PLO had massed weapons, leveled, the PLO leadership decimated, and between 50,000 and 100,000 people were left homeless. King Hussein with his loyal Bedouin soldiers expelled the PLO from Jordan by early 1971.

History repeats itself.

Disengagement had to be done, because the status quo at the time was bleeding the country, and the third alternative (which is what SHOULD HAVE been done) was to kick out the Arab squatters. Israel needs to deal with the Hizzies in Lebanon, sooner rather than later, and build its relationship with Egypt. Also, Israel needs to destroy those Iranian missile batteries which overlook the Red Sea, just to send an important message to Iran and the rest of the world which has ignored their existence, and build better ties with the eastern African countries currently beset by Iran's proxy jihadists.
