Roots of Pro-Russian Separatists in Russia's Ultranationalist Groups (Nazis/Stalinists)

Roots of Pro-Russian Separatists in Russia's Ultranationalist Groups

16:25 (GMT)

Vladimir Pribylovsky, a well-known Russian researcher of extremist movements in Eurasia, co-author with Yuri Felshtinsky of The Putin Corporation: The Story of Russia's Secret Takeover has documented the relationship between the separatist leaders fighting in the southeast of Ukraine and ultranationalist groups in Russia.

Svetlana Pavlova of Svoboda.org (the Russian-language service of the US-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty) published an interview with Pribylovskky about these connections in June and Pribylovsky added some details in a recent Facebook post.

....

The Interpreter has provided a summary translation of the pieces:

Aleksandr Boroday, the "prime minister of the Donetsk People's Republic" is an associate of Konstantin Malofeyev, an Orthodox businessman and supporter of nationalist causes. He wrote for the ultranationalist newspaper Zavtra, published by Aleksandr Prokhanov.

Pavel Gubarev, "people's governor of Donetsk" is a member of the neo-Nazi Russian National Unity (RNE), founded by Aleksandr Barkashov, a karate trainer and bodyguard, in the 1990s. There is a photo of him at an RNE training wearing the group's uniform with its swastika-like insignia. Gubarev has not denied his membership in the RNE, but is said not to have held a leadership post in it. Gubarev was also involved in the Ukrainian Progressive Socialist Party led by Nataliya Vitrenko and ran in local elections. RNE is waning in Russia, but appears to have members fighting in southeastern Ukraine.

Coming from the guy that insists on lying and strawmen, that is quite funny! Thanks for the laughs.

A supporter of ACTUAL UKRAINIAN NAZI’s calling the “Putin regime and associated groups” “basically Nazi’s” is quite hypocritical, doncha think??

Isn't it the other way around? Russia is invading Ukraine on the basis that they are liberating it from the "Nazis," even while they accuse Poroshenko, a chocolate boss who founded a Pro-EU moderate party, and the Prime Minister of actually being ethnically Jewish. The hypocrisy isn't on the Ukrainian side, who are only the subject of this kind of propaganda.

You can point to the now resigned Parubiy and claim that the Nazis are somehow in power, despite all evidence to the contrary, but you can't erase the fact that the "separatists" sent from Moscow are apparently a collection of Communists and Nazis. Though, it is not right to differentiate between the two in Russia. In that country, they're basically the same thing. Or, maybe, they were always the same, whatever country they were in. It is hard for me to differentiate between these "ultranationalist- ultraleftists" and these "ultranationalist-ultrarightists" that they talk about.

And one final word about Parubiy. Ukraine has a parliamentry system. The reason why they let weirdos into weird positions, and then Jews in other positions who should reasonably hate each other, is because that is how you keep party coalitions together while your country is being invaded by a foreign enemy.

And my answer will always be the same. If I am lying or giving strawmen, correct the record. But, don't think that your word alone or some news article from Russian media is going to settle things.

The record speaks for itself.

Unless you still happen to be parroting Kiev’s, “This will be over in hours, not days!” line from two months ago.

Fine, then both sides are socialist scum but people who idolize Hitler tossing “Nazi” at anyone is so clearly a desperate propaganda ploy it’s funny.

Bandera fans do not idolize Hitler, they idolize Bandera. Hitler threw their hero Bandera in a concentration camp. Bandera was a nationalist, but not a nazi. He allied with Hitler, but then so did Stalin. Does that make Stalin a nazi?

What are you talking about? The head of the ATO is Vasyl Grytsak. He replaced Vasyl Krutov in July. Grystak was originally actually from the Party of Regions, Yanukovytch’s old party.

And seriously, this whole “Banderist = Nazi” thing gets old. By and large the people who support Bandera portray him as an *anti-Nazi campaigner*. They whitewash over his collaborations with the Nazis at different points in time as a necessity, but point out the years he spent in a Nazi concentration camp for opposing them and the fact that he helped shelter Jews and other persecuted groups within his organization (again, whitewashing over when he helped the Nazis with their persecution programs). Basically, that fact that someone calls a person a hero for (what they consider) their being an anti-Nazi campaigner is hardly a compelling argument that a person who holds such a view is themselves a Nazi.

There were two candidates in the last election that were arguably (but realistically, not really) neo-Nazis. Together they got less than 2% of the vote. And even they’re not even remotely as radical, as say, Golden Dawn in Greece, which is now their third largest political party. Where’s your protests against Golden Dawn?

Case in point when I say you are a liar and lie to my own face about things I allegedly say.

Please provide any link that shows me ever saying anything even remotely close to this, you rat scumbag.

Dictator Stalin voted third most popular Russian

(Reuters) - Soviet dictator Josef Stalin was voted Russia’s third most popular historical figure in a nationwide poll that ended on Sunday, despite the famine and purges that marked his rule.

Oops, Putinistas won’t protest Golden Dawn, because Golden Dawn supports Putin, along with Hungary’s Jobbik, France’s National Front, Italy’s Northern League, Germany’s National Democratic Party, etc, etc. Fascists all over Europe adore their new “strongman” Putin.

I think you've got it wrong.

John McCain Went To Ukraine And Stood On Stage With A Man Accused Of Being An Anti-Semitic Neo-Nazi but we both know that don't we.

I knew this thread would get our Bolsheviks fired-up. Don’t forget, Putin financially supports anti-fracking groups. Haven’t seen one of those threads posted by one of them, though. Wonder why. /s

I don't have it wrong at all. How many votes did Svoboda get in the Presidential election?

By the way, you're another freak who posts links to anti-semitic articles and then complains about Nazis.

And that’s another thing that ticks me off: it’s only a matter of time before one of these numbnuts posts another article from Lyndon LaRouche.

Hey if the Ukrainians are nazis, then how come a Jewish oligarch finances the Ukrainian militia? Is he one of those Jewish nazis?

And how many votes did they get, you perpetual propagandist? Less than even 1 percent in the Presidential election? And how many times have you been told this, and yet keep making these stupid comments?

Don’t bother with facts, the same guy will be pasting the same crap again, again and again... KGB has built a huge (and truly “rainbow” - from far left to far right) network of weirdos, some of them are operatives/agents, others are useful idiots, who don’t even realize what they are taking part in.

Bandera and his thugs were punished for brutality by Nazi SS. Just think about it. This fact alone is actually enough to make a judgement about this group.

Well, are there many people like that in Russian parliament? Of course, there are people who are nazi in Russia but there aren’t that many of them for sure.
