Never mind ...
I see it was his confession document that was published. Presumably it dates from something earlier than his pre-centennial days.

Interesting nick.

Their government has been successful in covering up atrocities since the war. The truth be known the numbers of murdered Asians by their military was actually in the millions not even counting those who were worked to death.......since it was done with out any witnesses we will never know the final count...

“This is the latest of 45 Japanese war criminal confessions the SAA plans to publish. The SAA has been issuing one a day since July 3.”

It’s pretty clear the Chinese are cranking up popular hatred for the Japanese. Their plans require massive support for war against Japan. However, it would have been far better for the Japanese to have come clean after the war. Most people in Japan know little or nothing about the horrible abuses.

Especially towards the War’s end, Japanese were killing up to 15,000 per day in China, Korea and Philippines.

Tell me again who using the Atomic bombs to end the war was the wrong thing to do....

t was kind of a waste. That didn’t end the war, Russia declaring war on Japan did.

The Russians were only gaining territory in Manchuria and had taken no direct actions against the Japanese islands.

The emporer was directly influenced by both the atomic bombings followed by Russia entering the war.

That's just a little naive. Russia declared war at that time because America had used the bomb. It's called "pile on."

The decision to surrender came too late to have been from the first bomb and too early to have been from the second bomb, but right after the declaration of war by Russia.

Your point regarding the timing is suspect. You imply the decision to surrender was made prior to the dropping of the second bomb.

The second bombing and the Russians going into Machuckuo happened on the same day, Aug 9. Only after after both events did the emporer convene the council which decided to surrender.

With German efficiency, the Nazis kept records of most everything...the Japs, not so much.

Years ago, when I worked the office of a warehouse, there was an oldtimer who kept busy driving a bobtail for a local company. He was probably 75 - he'd been a civilian who was captured on Wake Island and spent the war as a POW...and he totally despised Japanese and anything to do with them.

There were, coincidentally, several local Japanese seafood companies, so their drivers would also show up...and old Joe would walk up to them and fearlessly curse them up and down.

The Japanese treated their prisoners brutally.

Angelina Jolie is doing a movie about Louis Zamperini based on the book Unbroken. He was an Olympic class athlete before the war who was a POW for most of the war. Even he almost didn't make it.

It will be interesting to see how honestly the movie treats the brutal treatment.

It was kind of a waste. That didn’t end the war, Russia declaring war on Japan did.

Not entirely true--a little simplistic. John Toland very carefully traces the moments of the Imperial government in the last days before the Japanese capitulation in his two-volume work The Rising Sun: The Decline and Fall of the Japanese Empire.

Hirohito called The Supreme Council for the Direction of the War together at the end of July, 1945. At that point, despite the Council's public statements that Japan intended to fight to the bitter end, the Council--also called the "Big Six"--were making entreaties to the Soviet Union for assistance in getting more favorable terms fot the surrender of Japan. By that time, the Japanese Navy could no longer conduct major operations. On August 6, 1945, The Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. On August 9, the Soviet Union invaded Manchukuo, the Japanese puppet government in Manchuria, of The Last Emperor--Puyi fame.

Hirohito then called the Big Six together and expressed his wishes to end the war, and to accept the conditions of the Allies as stated in the Potsdam Declaration.

Though the Japanese signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender ending the WWII hostilities on the deck of the Battleship Missouri, the state of war between the Allies and Japan did not end until the Treaty of San Francisco came into effect on April 28, 1952. The state of war between Japan and the Soviet union continued until 1956 with the signing of The Soviet-Japanese Joint Declaration of 1956.

"Mao murdered them by the millions"

Well, actually the Japanese murdered Chinese civilians by the millions as well. One horrific crime doesn't excuse the other.
