You may be right about the fallout from this. I can imagine that based on this news, more aggressive minority shoplifter criminal types will target this place now. They will think that its an easy target because they can claim racism there.
Actually, why bother to shoplift? Just go in and act suspiciously like a shoplifter, wait to get pinched (or questioned), and then file a complaint and negotiate a settlement.
